3. Setup

3.1. Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the NUX MG-300 from its packaging. Verify that all components are present and undamaged. The package should include the MG-300 unit and its power adapter.

3.2. Power Connection

Connect the included 9V DC power adapter to the 'DC 9V' input jack on the rear of the MG-300. Plug the adapter into a standard electrical outlet. The unit will power on automatically.

3.3. Audio Connections

The MG-300 offers various connection options:

• Guitar Input: Connect your guitar to the 'INPUT' jack using a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable.
• Output to Amplifier/PA: Connect the 'OUTPUT' jacks to your guitar amplifier's input, or directly to a PA system/mixer.
• Headphone Output: For silent practice, connect your headphones to the 'PHONES' jack.
• AUX In: Connect an external audio source (e.g., MP3 player, phone) to the 'AUX IN' jack to play along with backing tracks.

3.4. USB Connection

Connect the MG-300 to your computer using a USB cable. This allows for direct audio recording and access to the QuickTone Editor software for advanced settings and firmware updates.

4. Operating the MG-300

4.1. Controls Overview

The MG-300 features a clear layout of knobs and buttons for easy operation:

• SELECT Knob: Used to navigate menus and select options.
• GAIN Knob: Adjusts the gain level of the selected amp model or effect.
• LEVEL Knob: Controls the output level of the selected effect block.
• MASTER Knob: Adjusts the overall output volume of the unit.
• EDIT/EXIT Button: Enters/exits editing mode or goes back to the previous screen.
• SAVE Button: Saves your customized presets.
• MODE Button: Switches between different operational modes.
• JAM Button: Activates the drum machine and looper functions.
• TAP Button: Used for tap tempo for delay and modulation effects.
• PEDAL Button: Configures the expression pedal's function.
• GROUP MODULE Buttons (Left/Right Arrows): Navigates between effect blocks in the signal chain.
• LOOP Footswitch: Controls the looper function (record, play, dub).
• DRUM Footswitch: Activates/deactivates the drum machine.
• BYPASS TUNER Footswitch: Bypasses effects and activates the built-in tuner.

4.2. Amp Modeling and Effects

The MG-300 utilizes TSAC-HD (True Simulation of Analog Circuit - High Definition) technology for realistic amp modeling. It includes 25 amp models and 25 cabinet Impulse Responses (IRs). You can further customize your tone by selecting from 4 classic microphones with 3 positions each. The CORE-IMAGE technology powers the post-effects, offering a rich library of modulation, delay, and reverb effects.

4.3. Looper and Drum Machine

Engage the JAM button to access the looper and drum machine. The looper allows for 60 seconds of recording, with the ability to overdub. The drum machine provides 56 diverse beats across 8 styles, and can synchronize with your phrase loops for dynamic practice sessions.

4.4. Tuner

Press and hold the BYPASS TUNER footswitch to activate the built-in chromatic tuner. The LCD will display your note and tuning accuracy.

4.5. Expression Pedal

The integrated expression pedal can be assigned to control various parameters. Use the PEDAL button to cycle through assignments such as WAH (controlling the WAH filter), EFX (controlling GAIN/DRIVE or PITCH BENDER), AMP (controlling AMP LEVEL), MOD (controlling Modulation MIX), DLY (controlling Delay MIX), and RVB (controlling Reverb MIX).

4.6. QuickTone Editor Software

For comprehensive tone customization, download the NUX QuickTone Editor software from the official NUX website. This software allows you to visually adjust all parameters, manage presets, and load 3rd party IR files (48kHz WAV format supported). 5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your NUX MG-300, follow these maintenance guidelines:

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the unit. Avoid abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
• Storage: Store the pedal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
• Handling: Handle the unit with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.
• Power Supply: Always use the specified power adapter to prevent damage.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your NUX MG-300, try the following basic troubleshooting steps:

• No Power: Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the pedal and a working power outlet.
• No Sound: Check all audio cable connections (guitar, output to amp/headphones). Ensure the volume knobs (LEVEL, MASTER) are turned up. Verify that effects are not bypassed unintentionally.
• Distorted Sound: Check your input gain levels. Reduce the GAIN knob if the sound is clipping. Ensure your amplifier's input is not overdriven.
• Unit Freezes/Unresponsive: Disconnect and reconnect the power adapter to perform a hard reset.
• Software Connection Issues: Ensure the USB cable is properly connected. Restart the QuickTone Editor software and/or your computer. Check for updated USB drivers on the NUX website.
