Switching Between Planing Modes (2-in-1 Function)

The HMS860 offers a convenient 2-in-1 function, allowing easy conversion between thicknessing and surfacing operations. Refer to the machine's specific levers and locks for this transition.

Surfacing (Jointing) Operation

1. Ensure the machine is configured for surfacing.
2. Adjust the infeed table to the desired cutting depth (maximum 2mm).
3. Set the planing fence to the required angle (typically 90° for square edges).
4. Turn on the planer.
5. Feed the workpiece smoothly and consistently across the cutterhead, keeping it firmly against the fence and table.

Thicknessing Operation

1. Ensure the machine is configured for thicknessing.
2. Use the hand crank to adjust the thicknessing table to the desired final thickness of the workpiece.
3. Turn on the planer.
4. Feed the workpiece into the infeed rollers. The machine will automatically pull the wood through and plane it to the set thickness.
5. For best results, take multiple shallow passes rather than one deep pass, especially with hard woods.
