Follow these steps to set up your blood pressure monitor for first use:
- Power Supply:
- USB Power: Connect the provided USB cable to the monitor's USB port and plug the other end into a compatible USB power adapter (not always included) or a computer USB port.
- Battery Power (Optional): If using batteries (not included), open the battery compartment on the back of the unit and insert 4 "AAA" alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Attach the Cuff: Insert the air tube connector from the arm cuff firmly into the air jack on the side of the monitor unit.
- Set Date and Time: When powered on for the first time, the device may prompt you to set the date and time. Use the "SET" button to navigate and adjust values, and the "MEM" button to confirm.
- User Selection: If the device supports multiple users, select the desired user profile (e.g., User 1 or User 2) before taking a measurement.
5. Operating Instructions
Taking a Measurement:
- Preparation: Sit comfortably with your back supported and feet flat on the floor. Rest your arm on a table so the cuff is at heart level. Avoid talking or moving during the measurement.
- Apply the Cuff: Wrap the arm cuff around your bare upper arm, approximately 1-2 cm above the elbow joint. Ensure the air tube runs down the center of your arm in line with your middle finger. The cuff should be snug but not too tight.
- Start Measurement: Press the START/STOP button. The cuff will automatically inflate, and the measurement will begin.
- Read Results: Once the measurement is complete, the systolic pressure (SYS), diastolic pressure (DIA), and pulse rate (PUL/min) will be displayed on the LCD screen.
- Power Off: Press the START/STOP button again to turn off the device, or it will automatically shut off after a period of inactivity.
Memory Function:
The THOMSON Cardio A6 stores up to 90 measurements for two users, allowing you to track your blood pressure trends over time.
- Access Memory: With the device off, press the MEM button to view previous readings.
- Navigate Records: Press the MEM button repeatedly to scroll through stored measurements.
- Clear Memory: Refer to the full manual for instructions on how to clear all stored data, if desired.
Arrhythmia Detection:
If an irregular heartbeat is detected during the measurement, a specific symbol (e.g., a heart icon with irregular beats) may appear on the display. If this symbol appears frequently, consult your doctor.
6. Maintenance and Care
- Cleaning: Wipe the monitor unit and cuff with a soft, dry cloth. If necessary, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap, then wipe dry immediately. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.
- Storage: Store the device in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and humidity. Keep the cuff deflated and neatly folded.
- Battery Replacement: If using batteries, replace all four batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
- Calibration: This device is calibrated at the time of manufacture. Regular calibration is not typically required for home use, but if you have concerns about accuracy, consult the manufacturer or a qualified service center.
