4. Setup
4.1 Placement
The HECO Ambient Line 88 F offers flexible placement options:
- Floor Placement: The subwoofer can be placed upright or lying down on the floor. Ensure it is on a stable, level surface. The downfire design means the main speaker driver faces downwards, so ensure there is clearance for sound dispersion.
- Wall Mounting: For upright installation, wall mounting is possible using the provided brackets. Ensure the wall can support the weight of the subwoofer securely.

4.2 Connections
Before making any connections, ensure the subwoofer and all connected audio devices are turned off and unplugged from the power outlet.
- Audio Input: Connect your audio source (e.g., AV receiver, stereo amplifier) to the subwoofer's input terminals. The subwoofer typically features RCA Line In (L/R) inputs and an LFE (Low-Frequency Effects) input. Use the LFE input for dedicated subwoofer outputs from an AV receiver for optimal performance. If your amplifier does not have a dedicated subwoofer output, use the Line In (L/R) inputs.
- Power Connection: Once all audio connections are made, connect the supplied power cable to the AC INPUT on the subwoofer's rear panel and then to a suitable wall power outlet.

5. Operating
5.1 Power On/Off
Locate the power switch on the rear panel. It typically has three positions:
- ON (GREEN): The subwoofer is active and will produce sound. The indicator light will be green.
- STANDBY (RED): The subwoofer is in standby mode, consuming minimal power. It will automatically turn on when an audio signal is detected. The indicator light will be red.
- OFF: The subwoofer is completely powered off.
5.2 Controls
The rear panel features several controls for fine-tuning the subwoofer's performance:
- VOLUME: Adjusts the output level of the subwoofer. Start with a low setting and gradually increase until the bass blends seamlessly with your main speakers.
- CROSSOVER (150Hz): This knob sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. Frequencies above this setting will be filtered out. Adjust this to match the low-frequency capabilities of your main speakers. A common starting point is around 80-100 Hz, but experimentation is recommended. If using the LFE input, this control might be bypassed by your AV receiver.
- PHASE (0°/180°): This switch adjusts the phase of the subwoofer's output relative to your main speakers. In some setups, reversing the phase (180°) can result in a more coherent and impactful bass response. Experiment with both settings to find the one that sounds best in your listening environment.
6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your HECO Ambient Line 88 F subwoofer, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the cabinet. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not obstructed.
- Placement: Avoid placing the subwoofer in direct sunlight or near heat sources. Keep it away from areas with high humidity.
- Power: Unplug the subwoofer from the power outlet if it will not be used for an extended period.
