1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the TOPWAY Digital Wood Moisture Meter. This device is designed to measure the moisture content of wood, firewood, cardboard, and paper with high accuracy. Its portable design and easy-to-read LED display make it an essential tool for woodworking, construction, and home inspection. 2. Safety Information

4. Product Overview

The TOPWAY Digital Wood Moisture Meter features a compact design with an easy-to-read LED display, control buttons, and two sensitive measurement pins at the top. The device is powered by a 9V battery, housed in a compartment on the back.

Controls and Display:

  • Power Button (Red): Turns the device ON/OFF.
  • MODE Button: Selects the wood group (A, B, C, D) for accurate measurement.
  • HOLD Button: Freezes the current measurement on the display.
  • LED Display: Shows moisture percentage, selected wood group, and battery status.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Slide the cover downwards to open the compartment.
  3. Connect the included 9V battery to the battery clip, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Place the battery into the compartment and slide the cover back into place until it clicks securely.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

  • Press the red Power Button to turn the device ON. The display will light up.
  • To turn OFF, press the red Power Button again. The device will also automatically power off after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.

6.2 Selecting Wood Group

For accurate wood moisture measurements, select the appropriate wood group (A, B, C, or D) that corresponds to the type of wood you are measuring. Refer to Section 6.4 for a list of wood types per group.

  • With the device ON, press the MODE Button repeatedly to cycle through the wood groups (A, B, C, D). The selected group will be indicated on the display.

6.3 Taking a Measurement

  1. Ensure the device is ON and the correct wood group is selected (if measuring wood).
  2. Carefully push the two measurement pins into the material you wish to measure. Ensure the pins penetrate the material sufficiently for a stable reading.
  3. Read the moisture percentage displayed on the LED screen.
  4. To hold the current reading on the display, press the HOLD Button. Press it again to release the hold function.
  5. Remove the pins from the material after measurement.

6.4 Wood Group Classification

The meter is calibrated for approximately 50 wood species, categorized into four groups:

  • Group A: Teak, Afromosia, Walnut
  • Group B: White Poplar, Keruing
  • Group C: Lauan, Ash, Elm
  • Group D: Basswood, Larch, Pine

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure the measurement pins are clean and free of debris after each use.

7.2 Storage

  • Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Remove the battery if storing for extended periods to prevent battery leakage and damage to the device.

7.3 Battery Replacement

  • When the battery indicator on the display shows low power, replace the 9V battery following the installation steps in Section 5.1.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on:
    - Check if the 9V battery is installed correctly with the correct polarity.
    - Replace the battery with a new one if it is depleted.
  • Inaccurate readings:
    - Ensure the measurement pins are fully inserted into the material.
    - Verify that the correct wood group is selected for the material being measured.
    - Clean the measurement pins if they appear dirty or corroded.
    - Ensure the material surface is clean and free of moisture or contaminants.
  • Display is blank or flickering:
    - The battery may be low. Replace the 9V battery.
