Installation Instructions (Setup)
Follow these steps carefully to replace the bake element in your oven. Refer to your oven's specific service manual for detailed instructions if available.
- Disconnect Power: Locate your home's circuit breaker panel and turn off the power to the oven. Verify that the power is off by attempting to turn on the oven.
- Access Oven Interior: Open the oven door and remove all oven racks.
- Locate Old Element: The bake element is typically located at the bottom of the oven cavity.

- Remove Mounting Screws: Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the screws that secure the old bake element to the back wall of the oven.
- Gently Pull Element Forward: Carefully pull the element forward a few inches. This will expose the electrical terminals at the back. Do not pull too far, as the wires are still connected.
- Disconnect Wires: Note the position of the wires. Using needle-nose pliers, carefully disconnect the two electrical wires from the terminals of the old element. Be careful not to let the wires retract into the back wall of the oven. You may want to attach a piece of string or tape to the wires to prevent them from falling back.

- Remove Old Element: Once the wires are disconnected, remove the old bake element from the oven.

- Secure New Element: Gently push the new element into place, aligning the mounting brackets with the screw holes. Reinstall the mounting screws.
- Replace Racks and Restore Power: Replace the oven racks. Go back to your circuit breaker panel and restore power to the oven.
- Test Operation: Turn on the oven to a low bake setting (e.g., 350°F or 175°C) and observe the new element. It should begin to heat and glow red. A slight burning smell may occur during the first use as manufacturing oils burn off; this is normal.
Operation
Once installed, the UpStart Components WP74010750 Bake Element operates identically to the original element. It will heat up when the oven's bake function is activated, providing the necessary heat for cooking. Refer to your oven's user manual for specific operating instructions.
Maintenance
The bake element itself requires minimal maintenance. Avoid direct contact with the element during cleaning. If food spills occur on the element, allow the oven to cool completely, then gently wipe away any residue. Do not use abrasive cleaners or sharp objects that could damage the element's surface.
Troubleshooting
If your oven is not heating correctly after replacing the bake element, consider the following:
- No Heat/Element Not Glowing:
- Check the circuit breaker to ensure power is fully restored to the oven.
- Verify that the electrical wires are securely connected to the element terminals.
- Ensure the element is properly seated and the mounting screws are tight.
- Uneven Heating:
- Confirm the element is fully functional and glowing evenly across its surface.
- This issue might indicate a problem with other oven components (e.g., thermostat, temperature sensor) rather than the bake element itself.
If troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, it is recommended to consult a qualified appliance repair technician.
