Product Components
- 1 x Bodum Bistro French Press Coffee Maker (34 fl oz / 1 Liter) with Shatterproof SAN Beaker
- 2 x Bodum Pavina Outdoor Tumblers (8 fl oz / 0.25 Liter each)
Safety Instructions
- Always handle with care, especially when using hot liquids.
- Do not use the French press on a stovetop or in a microwave.
- Keep all components out of reach of children.
- Ensure the lid of the French press is correctly positioned before pressing the plunger.
- Use coarse ground coffee to prevent clogging the filter and ensure proper operation.
- Avoid pushing the plunger too quickly, as this can cause hot liquid to spray out or grounds to bypass the filter.
- Do not use metal spoons or stirrers inside the French press beaker to avoid scratching or damaging the SAN plastic.
Setup
- Unpack all components of the Bodum Bistro Set.
- Wash all parts thoroughly with warm, soapy water before first use. Rinse completely.
- The French press consists of a SAN plastic beaker, a stainless steel frame with a handle, and a plunger assembly.
- The plunger assembly includes a lid, a rod, and a filter screen. If disassembled for cleaning, reassemble the plunger by screwing the filter screen onto the rod and then attaching the lid.
- Place the SAN plastic beaker securely within the stainless steel frame. Ensure the handle is firmly attached.
Operating Instructions: French Press
- Add Coffee Grounds: Place the desired amount of coarse ground coffee into the French press beaker. A general guideline is 1 tablespoon (7 grams) of coffee for every 4 fl oz (120 ml) of water. For the 34 fl oz French press, this would be approximately 8-9 tablespoons.
- Add Hot Water: Heat water to just below boiling (around 200°F / 93°C). Pour the hot water over the coffee grounds, ensuring all grounds are saturated.
- Stir (Optional): Gently stir the coffee and water mixture with a non-metal utensil to ensure even saturation.
- Steep: Place the plunger assembly on top of the beaker, but do not press down yet. Allow the coffee to steep for 4 minutes for optimal flavor extraction. Adjust steeping time based on desired strength.
- Press: Slowly and steadily press the plunger straight down. Apply gentle, even pressure. Avoid pressing too quickly, as this can cause hot liquid to spray out or grounds to bypass the filter. The plunger should take approximately 10-15 seconds to fully descend.
- Serve: Once the plunger is fully down, your coffee is ready to serve. Pour immediately into the Pavina tumblers or other heat-resistant cups.

Cleaning and Maintenance
- Disassembly: The French press can be fully disassembled for thorough cleaning. Unscrew the filter screen from the plunger rod. The SAN plastic beaker can be removed from the stainless steel frame by loosening the screw on the handle.
- Washing: All components of the French press and tumblers are dishwasher safe. For best results and to prolong product life, hand washing with warm, soapy water is recommended, especially for the filter screen to ensure all coffee residues are removed.
- Reassembly: Ensure all parts are dry before reassembling. Reattach the beaker to the frame and secure the handle screw. Reassemble the plunger filter by screwing the mesh filter onto the rod and then attaching the lid.
Troubleshooting
- Plunger is Stiff/Difficult to Press:
- Ensure you are using coarse ground coffee. Fine grounds can clog the filter.
- Check if the filter screen is clean and free of trapped grounds.
- Apply slow, even pressure. Do not force the plunger.
- Coffee Grounds in Brewed Coffee:
- Ensure the filter screen is properly assembled and not bent or damaged.
- Verify that the plunger is pressed down slowly and steadily.
- Use coarse ground coffee.
- Frame/Handle Loosens:
- Some models have a screw on the handle that secures the beaker to the frame. Periodically check and tighten this screw if it becomes loose.
