1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Homeleader ETL Portable Radiant Heater. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation of your new heater. Please read all instructions carefully before use and retain this manual for future reference.

This portable radiant heater is designed to provide rapid and consistent heating for indoor spaces such as bedrooms, living rooms, offices, garages, workshops, and warehouses. It features two heat settings (1250W/1500W) and an adjustable thermostat for personalized comfort.

2. Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, always follow these basic precautions:

  • Read all instructions before using this heater.
  • This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Use handles when moving this heater.
  • Keep combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front of the heater and away from the sides and rear.
  • Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or invalids and whenever the heater is left operating and unattended.
  • Always unplug heater when not in use.
  • Do not operate any heater with a damaged cord or plug or after the heater malfunctions, has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Discard heater or return to authorized service facility for examination and/or repair.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • This heater is not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas, and similar indoor locations. Never locate heater where it may fall into a bathtub or other water container.
  • Do not run cord under carpeting. Do not cover cord with throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings. Arrange cord away from traffic area and where it will not be tripped over.
  • To disconnect heater, turn controls to OFF, then remove plug from outlet.
  • Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the heater.
  • To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use on soft surfaces, like a bed, where openings may become blocked.
  • A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts inside. Do not use it in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable vapors or liquids are used or stored.
  • Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
  • Always plug heaters directly into a wall outlet/receptacle. Never use with an extension cord or relocatable power tap (outlet/power strip).
  • This heater includes an automatic Overheat Protection system that shuts the unit off if parts of the heater become excessively hot.
  • This heater is equipped with a Tip-Over Protection switch that will shut off the heater if it is accidentally knocked over.

Upon unpacking, please ensure all components are present and undamaged:

4. Setup and Assembly

The heater requires minimal assembly before first use. Follow these steps to attach the support legs:

  1. Carefully remove the heater from its packaging.
  2. Turn the heater upside down on a soft, stable surface to avoid scratching.
  3. Align each support leg with the designated slots on the bottom of the heater. Ensure the 'FRONT' marking on the legs faces the front of the heater.
  4. Insert the provided screws through the holes in the legs and into the heater's base. Tighten securely with a screwdriver.
  5. Once both legs are attached, carefully turn the heater upright.

5. Operating Instructions

To operate your Homeleader radiant heater, follow these steps:

  1. Place the heater on a firm, level surface, ensuring it is at least 3 feet away from any walls or combustible materials.
  2. Plug the power cord directly into a 120V AC electrical outlet. Do not use extension cords or power strips.
  3. Turn the POWER switch to the 'ON' position. The power indicator light will illuminate.
  4. Select your desired heat setting using the 1250W/1500W switch:
    • 1250W (Low): Provides moderate heat for maintaining comfort.
    • 1500W (High): Provides maximum heat for rapid room temperature increase.
  5. Adjust the THERMOSTAT dial to your preferred temperature. Turn the dial clockwise for higher temperatures and counter-clockwise for lower temperatures. The heater will cycle on and off to maintain the set temperature.
  6. To turn off the heater, turn the POWER switch to the 'OFF' position and unplug the unit from the wall outlet.

6. Features and Controls

  • Power Switch: Turns the heater ON or OFF.
  • Heat Settings: Select between 1250W (Low) and 1500W (High) for varying heat output.
  • Adjustable Thermostat: Allows you to set and maintain a desired room temperature.
  • Overheat Protection: Automatically shuts off the heater if internal components reach an unsafe temperature.
  • Tip-Over Protection: Automatically shuts off the heater if it is accidentally knocked over.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your heater:

  1. Always unplug the heater and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Wipe the exterior surfaces with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemical-based cleaners.
  3. Remove any loose dust from the air intake and exhaust vents using a feather duster or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment.
  4. Do not immerse the heater in water or any other liquid.
  5. Store the heater in a cool, dry place when not in use.

8. Troubleshooting

If your heater is not operating correctly, consult the following common issues and solutions:

  • Heater does not turn on:
    • Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working 120V outlet.
    • Check if the POWER switch is in the 'ON' position.
    • Verify the thermostat dial is set to a temperature higher than the current room temperature.
    • Check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses in your household electrical panel.
    • If the heater was recently tipped over or overheated, the safety features may have activated. Allow the unit to cool down and ensure it is on a stable surface before attempting to restart.
  • Insufficient heat output:
    • Ensure the heater is set to the 1500W (High) setting for maximum heat.
    • Check that the air intake and exhaust vents are not blocked by dust or other objects.
    • Confirm the thermostat is set to a high enough temperature.
  • Heater makes unusual noises:
    • A slight fan noise is normal. If the noise is excessive or unusual, unplug the heater and contact customer support.
