2. Important Safety Information

Read all instructions before using this appliance. To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, injury to persons, or damage when using the range, follow basic precautions, including the following:

  • Proper Installation: Ensure the range is properly installed and grounded by a qualified technician.
  • Child Safety: Do not leave children unattended in an area where the range is in use. Never allow children to sit or stand on any part of the range.
  • Flammable Materials: Never store flammable materials in or near the oven. Do not use water on grease fires; smother fire or use a dry chemical or foam-type extinguisher.
  • Hot Surfaces: Do not touch heating elements or interior surfaces of the oven. These surfaces may be hot enough to burn even though they are dark in color.
  • Oven Use: Use only dry potholders. Do not use aluminum foil to line the oven bottom or any part of the oven.
  • Self-Cleaning Cycle: Do not clean the door gasket. During self-cleaning, remove all racks and large food particles.

3. Setup and Installation

This section provides general guidelines for the initial setup of your GE Electric Range. For detailed installation instructions, refer to the separate Installation Instructions manual provided with your appliance.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials, tape, and protective film from the range. Ensure all accessories are present.
  2. Location: Position the range in its intended location, ensuring proper clearances from adjacent cabinets and walls as specified in the installation guide.
  3. Anti-Tip Bracket: Install the anti-tip bracket according to the installation instructions. This is a critical safety feature to prevent the range from tipping over.
  4. Electrical Connection: Connect the range to a properly grounded electrical outlet. This must be done by a qualified electrician in accordance with local codes and ordinances.
  5. Leveling: Adjust the leveling legs at the bottom of the range to ensure it is stable and level. Use a spirit level to verify.
  6. First Use Preparation: Before first use, wipe down the interior of the oven and cooktop with a damp cloth. It is normal for a slight odor to be present during the first few uses as manufacturing oils burn off.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Cooktop Operation

Your range is equipped with 5 radiant heating elements. The controls for these elements are located on the front panel.

  • Selecting an Element: Turn the corresponding control knob to the desired heat setting (e.g., LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH).
  • Element Indicator Lights: An indicator light will illuminate when an element is on. A separate "Hot Surface" indicator light will remain on until the cooktop surface has cooled to a safe temperature.
  • Proper Cookware: Use flat-bottomed cookware that matches the size of the heating element for optimal efficiency and even heating.

4.2 Oven Operation

The oven features a 5.0 cubic foot capacity, True Convection, and a self-cleaning function.

  1. Setting Oven Temperature: Press the "Bake" or "Roast" pad, then use the numeric keypad to enter the desired temperature. Press "Start" to begin preheating.
  2. True Convection: For faster and more even cooking, especially for multiple racks, select the "Convection Bake" or "Convection Roast" function. The convection fan circulates hot air throughout the oven cavity.
  3. Oven Racks: Position oven racks before preheating. Refer to cooking guides for recommended rack positions for various dishes.
  4. Oven Light: Press the "Oven Light" pad to turn the interior oven light on or off.
  5. Timer: Use the "Timer On/Off" pad to set a kitchen timer. This does not control oven cooking functions.

5. Care and Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Cooktop

  • Daily Cleaning: Wipe spills and splatters with a damp cloth and mild detergent after the surface has cooled.
  • Stubborn Stains: For baked-on food, use a ceramic cooktop cleaner and a non-abrasive pad. Follow the cleaner manufacturer's instructions.
  • Avoid: Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or sharp objects on the cooktop surface as they can cause scratches.

5.2 Self-Cleaning Oven

The self-cleaning cycle uses very high temperatures to burn off food soils. This process typically takes several hours.

  1. Preparation: Remove all oven racks, broiler pan, and any other accessories from the oven. Wipe up any loose soil or large food particles.
  2. Starting the Cycle: Press the "Self Clean" pad, then use the numeric keypad to select the desired cleaning time (e.g., 3, 4, or 5 hours). Press "Start". The oven door will automatically lock.
  3. During Cleaning: Ensure the kitchen is well-ventilated. Some smoke and odor are normal.
  4. After Cleaning: Once the cycle is complete and the oven has cooled, the door will unlock. Wipe away any white ash residue with a damp cloth.

5.3 General Cleaning

  • Exterior Surfaces: Clean with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. For stainless steel finishes, use a stainless steel cleaner.
  • Control Knobs: Pull off the knobs and wash them in warm, soapy water. Dry thoroughly before replacing.
  • Oven Racks: Clean with soapy water or a mild abrasive cleaner. For heavily soiled racks, the self-clean cycle is not recommended.
