3. Setup

  1. Place the Game Board: Place the pond game board in the center of the playing area.
  2. Position the Fish: Place the fish piece in the middle of the pond.
  3. Choose Frog Families: Each player selects a color and takes the corresponding frog family (2 large frogs and 3 small frogs).
  4. Starting Position: Each player places all members of their frog family on the starting edge of the pond, indicated by a frog icon of their chosen color. This starting edge is always directly opposite the finish edge.

4. Game Rules (Junior Level)

The objective of the game is to be the first player to move all of their frogs to the lily pads on the opposite side of the board (the finish edge).

  1. Player Turns: Players take turns moving one of their frogs.
  2. Frog Movement:
    • A frog can only move to an adjacent lily pad that is not occupied by another frog.
    • A large frog can jump one or two spaces.
    • A small frog can jump one, two, or three spaces.
    • Frogs can jump directly to any adjacent lily pad or jump over a single adjacent frog to the empty lily pad directly behind it.
  3. Encountering the Fish: If a player's frog lands on a lily pad with the fish, that frog must return to its starting point.
  4. Passing a Turn: If a player cannot make a valid move, they must pass their turn to the next player.
  5. Winning the Game: The first player to successfully move all of their frogs to the lily pads on the finish edge wins the game.

5. Advanced Play (Expert Level)

For a more challenging experience, the Expert Level introduces additional rules:

  • Forming Teams: Small frogs can jump onto the back of a large frog of their own color, forming a team.
  • Team Movement: Teams move together one space at a time, provided the destination lily pad is empty. Teams cannot be sent back to their starting edge by the fish.
  • Separating Teams: When separating a team, the small frog must move first, leaving the large frog behind.
  • Trapping Opponent Frogs: A large frog can jump onto a small frog of another color, trapping it. The trapped small frog cannot move until the large frog moves away.

6. Quick Game

For a faster game, you can modify the frog family composition. In a Quick Game, each frog family consists of 1 large frog and 2 small frogs. All other rules from either the Junior or Expert level apply as chosen by the players.

7. Care and Maintenance

To ensure the longevity of your Froggit game:

  • Storage: Store all game components in their original box in a dry place to prevent damage to the cardboard board and plastic pieces.
  • Cleaning: Wipe game pieces and the board with a soft, slightly damp cloth if they become dirty. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Handling: Handle the game pieces and board with care to prevent bending, tearing, or breaking.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues while playing Froggit, consider the following:

  • Lost Pieces: In case of lost pieces, contact SmartGames customer support for possible replacements.
  • Rule Disputes: Refer to this manual for clarification on game rules. For complex situations, players may agree on a house rule before continuing.
  • Game Flow: If the game feels slow, consider playing the Quick Game variant with fewer frogs per family.
