6. Operating Modes
The Opus BT-C3100 V2.2 offers five distinct operating modes, selectable via the mode buttons for each slot or globally. The LCD display provides real-time information for each battery.

Figure 6.1: The LCD display and control buttons for mode and current selection.
6.1. Charge Mode
This mode charges the battery to its full capacity. You can select the charging current.
- Available Currents: 200 mA, 300 mA, 500 mA, 700 mA, 1000 mA, 1500 mA, 2000 mA.
- Selection: After inserting a battery, press the 'Current' button to cycle through available charging currents. The charger will automatically start charging after a few seconds if no selection is made, typically at a default current.
6.2. Discharge Mode
This mode discharges the battery to a safe low voltage. This is useful for analyzing battery capacity or preparing batteries for storage.
- Available Currents: 200 mA, 300 mA, 500 mA, 700 mA, 1000 mA (for Li-ion batteries only).
- Selection: Press the 'Mode' button until 'Discharge' is selected. Then, use the 'Current' button to choose the desired discharge current.
6.3. Test Mode
The Test mode first fully charges the battery, then discharges it to measure its actual capacity, and finally recharges it. This provides an accurate capacity reading.
- Process: Charge > Discharge (capacity measured) > Charge.
- Selection: Press the 'Mode' button until 'Test' is selected. You can adjust the charging and discharging currents.
6.4. Quick Test Mode
This mode quickly determines the internal resistance of the battery by applying a brief charge and discharge cycle. A lower internal resistance indicates a healthier battery.
- Process: Brief charge/discharge cycle to measure internal resistance.
- Selection: Press the 'Mode' button until 'Quick Test' is selected.
6.5. Refresh Mode
The Refresh mode is designed to restore older or poorly performing batteries by repeatedly charging and discharging them until their capacity stabilizes. This can improve battery life and performance.
- Process: Multiple charge/discharge cycles.
- Selection: Press the 'Mode' button until 'Refresh' is selected. This process can take several hours or even days depending on the battery condition.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.
- Fan Maintenance: The charger features a protective fan cover. Ensure the fan vents are clear of dust and debris to maintain optimal cooling performance. Do not obstruct the fan.
- Battery Contacts: Periodically inspect the battery contacts in the charging slots for any dirt or corrosion. Clean gently with a cotton swab if necessary.

8. Troubleshooting
- Charger not powering on: Ensure the AC power adapter is securely connected to both the wall outlet and the charger. Verify the power outlet is functional.
- Battery not charging/displaying error: Check if the battery is inserted with correct polarity. Ensure the battery is a compatible rechargeable type (Li-ion, Ni-MH, NiCd). The battery might be deeply discharged or faulty.
- Overheating warning: If the charger or battery becomes too hot, the charger's built-in protection may pause or reduce current. Ensure proper ventilation around the charger and that the fan vents are not blocked. Allow the unit to cool down.
- Inaccurate capacity readings: For more accurate capacity measurements, use the 'Test' mode. Ensure batteries are fully discharged before starting a test cycle if you suspect memory effect.
- Display issues: If the LCD display is not functioning correctly, try disconnecting and reconnecting the power. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
