Please read this manual thoroughly before using the product to ensure correct operation and to prevent damage.
2. Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury and damage to the equipment:
- Ensure the power supply matches the specified voltage range (AC 80V~260V; 50~60Hz).
- Do not expose the DRO unit or linear scales to excessive moisture, dust, or corrosive environments.
- Disconnect power before performing any installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting.
- Handle glass linear scales with care to avoid breakage or damage to the grating.
- Ensure all cables are properly routed and secured to prevent entanglement with moving machine parts.

4. Setup and Installation
Careful installation is crucial for accurate performance. Follow these guidelines:
4.1. Determine Travel Length and Installation Space
Before purchasing and installing, it is essential to correctly measure the required travel length and ensure sufficient installation space on your machine.

Figure 4.1: Step-by-step guide on how to accurately measure the travel length required for your linear scale installation on a machine tool.
Important Note:
- Order encoders by Travel Length, not Overall Length. The Overall Length = Travel Length + 140mm (5.51 inches).
- The available travel options for this model are 250mm (10''), 300mm (12''), and 350mm (14'').

Figure 4.2: Diagram illustrating the difference between the travel length (L0) and the overall length (L) of the linear scale, with L = 20X2 + 100 + L0.

Figure 4.3: Dimensional drawing of the linear scale, highlighting key measurements (L0, L1, L) to ensure adequate installation space on your mill or lathe.
4.2. General Installation Steps
- Mount the Linear Scale: Securely attach the linear scale to the stationary part of the machine axis using the provided mounting brackets. Ensure it is parallel to the axis of motion.
- Mount the Read Head: Attach the read head to the moving part of the machine axis. Ensure proper alignment with the linear scale and maintain the specified gap.
- Connect Cables: Connect the linear scale cables to the corresponding input ports on the DRO unit.
- Power Connection: Connect the DRO unit to a suitable AC power source (80V-260V, 50/60Hz).
- Initial Test: Power on the DRO unit and move the machine axis through its full travel to verify readings and smooth operation.

4.3. DRO Compatibility (9-Pin Connector)
Important Note:
If you are purchasing only the linear scale (DRO Scale) to match with another brand's DRO unit, it is critical to ensure that the 9-pin connector definition is identical. Incompatible pin definitions will prevent the system from functioning correctly.

Figure 4.5: Detailed diagram of the 9-pin D-sub connector and its pin assignments (+5V, 0V, A, B, Blank) for ensuring compatibility between the linear scale and the DRO unit.
5. Operation
Once installed, the DRO unit provides real-time position feedback for your machine axes. The specific operational features (e.g., zero setting, half-function, diameter/radius conversion) will depend on the DRO unit's firmware. Refer to the DRO unit's specific manual for detailed function descriptions.
- Power On/Off: Use the main power switch on the DRO unit.
- Zero Setting: Press the 'ZERO' button for the desired axis to set the current position as zero.
- Axis Movement: As the machine axis moves, the DRO display will update the position in real-time.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your DRO system.
- Cleaning: Keep the linear scale and read head free from chips, dust, and coolant. Use a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically check all cables for signs of wear, cuts, or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
- Mounting Hardware: Ensure all mounting screws and brackets remain tight. Loose components can affect accuracy.
- Environmental Control: Operate the system within its specified temperature and humidity ranges.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- No Display/Power: Check power connection, power switch, and fuse (if applicable).
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Verify linear scale and read head are clean and free of debris.
- Check for proper alignment and gap between the read head and scale.
- Ensure all mounting hardware is secure.
- Axis Not Responding:
- Check the cable connection between the linear scale and the DRO unit.
- Confirm the 9-pin connector definition matches if using a third-party DRO unit (refer to Figure 4.5).
- Intermittent Readings: Check for loose cable connections or electromagnetic interference from other machinery.
