Important Safety Information
- Always disconnect power at the circuit breaker before installation or servicing.
- All wiring must be in accordance with national and local electrical codes. If you are unfamiliar with wiring, consult a qualified electrician.
- Ensure the installation site can support the weight of the fan (approximately 19.71 pounds).
- Do not operate the fan with damaged blades. Replace any damaged blades immediately.
- Maintain a minimum clearance of 7 feet from the floor to the bottom of the fan blades for safety.
- Do not insert objects into the path of the fan blades.
Setup and Installation
1. Unpacking and Component Check
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all parts listed in your product's packing list are present. Included components are Blades, Light Bulb, Light Kit, Motor, and Pull Chain.
2. Mounting Options and Downrod Selection
The Hunter Aker fan supports three mounting positions: standard, low, or angled. The fan comes with a 3-inch and 2-inch downrod to ensure proper distance from the ceiling and optimize air movement. For ceilings greater than 9 feet, an extension downrod may be necessary to maintain the recommended 7-foot clearance from the floor to the fan blades.

Figure 2: Fan Dimensions and Recommended Downrod Lengths based on Ceiling Height.
For ceilings 10-15 feet, subtract 9 feet from the total ceiling height to determine the appropriate downrod length. For ceilings greater than 15 feet, a 72-inch downrod is recommended.
3. Installing an Extension Downrod (if applicable)
If using an extension downrod, follow these steps. Refer to the video below for a visual guide.
Video 1: How to Choose and Install a Ceiling Fan Downrod by Hunter. This video demonstrates the process of disassembling the included downrod and reassembling it with an extension downrod, including wiring and securing the components.
- Disassemble the included downrod: Carefully remove the components of the short downrod that came with your fan.
- Reassemble to extension downrod: Attach the removed components to your desired extension downrod.
- Remove set screw: Locate and remove the set screw from the fan motor housing. Set it aside for later use.
- Thread wiring: Use a long zip tie, fish tape, or wire coat hanger to pull the fan's electrical wires through the extension downrod. Tape the end of the wires to the tool to easily pull them through.
- Hand tighten downrod: Screw the downrod into the fan motor housing until it stops.
- Securely tighten with pliers: Use pliers to securely tighten the downrod.
- Replace set screw: Reinsert and tighten the set screw to lock the downrod in place.
- Add canopy: Slide the canopy over the downrod.
Refer to the full manual for complete fan installation instructions after the downrod is prepared.
4. Blade Installation
Attach the three fan blades to the motor housing. Ensure all screws are tightened securely. The blades are reversible, offering different aesthetic options.

5. Electrical Wiring
Connect the fan's electrical wires to the household wiring according to the provided wiring diagram in the complete manual and local electrical codes. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
Operating Your Ceiling Fan
1. Pull Chain Control
Your Aker ceiling fan is equipped with traditional pull chains for easy control:
- Fan Speed: Pull the chain to cycle through high, medium, low, and off settings.
- Light: Pull the light chain to turn the LED light on or off. The LED light is fully dimmable.
2. Reversible Motor for Year-Round Comfort
The fan features a reversible WhisperWind motor for optimal air movement in both summer and winter:
- Summer Mode (Counter-clockwise rotation): Creates a downward airflow, producing a cooling effect.
- Winter Mode (Clockwise rotation): Creates an upward airflow, circulating warm air trapped near the ceiling.
To change the direction, locate the reverse switch on the motor housing (usually above the light kit). Ensure the fan is off before changing the direction.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the fan blades and motor housing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Tightening: Check all screws and connections annually to ensure they are secure.
- Light Bulb Replacement: The fan uses an energy-efficient LED bulb. If replacement is needed, ensure the power is off and use a compatible LED bulb.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Fan will not start | No power to the fan; loose wire connections. | Check circuit breaker and wall switch. Ensure all wire connections are secure. |
| Fan wobbles | Loose blade screws; unbalanced blades; loose mounting hardware. | Tighten all blade screws. Use the included balancing kit if necessary. Ensure mounting hardware is secure. |
| Light will not turn on | Loose wire connection; faulty bulb. | Check light kit wiring. Replace bulb if necessary. |
| Noisy operation | Loose screws; motor hum. | Check and tighten all screws. Some motor hum is normal, especially at lower speeds. |
