1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Stack-On PS-1820-E Personal Security Large Safe. This safe is designed to provide secure storage for your valuables, documents, and firearms. Featuring an advanced electronic lock with biometric (fingerprint) capabilities, it offers both convenience and robust protection. Please read this manual thoroughly before setting up and operating your safe to ensure proper function and maximum security.

2. Safety Information

  • Keep Keys Secure: If your safe includes override keys, store them in a secure location away from the safe itself. Do not store them inside the safe.
  • Battery Safety: Use only the specified type and number of batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries. Remove batteries if the safe will not be used for an extended period.
  • Mounting: For optimal security, it is highly recommended to bolt the safe to a floor or wall. Ensure the mounting surface is structurally sound.
  • Children: Do not leave children unattended near the safe. The safe is not a toy.
  • Emergency Access: Familiarize yourself with all methods of opening the safe, including emergency override procedures.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the safe from its packaging. Inspect the safe for any signs of damage. If damage is found, contact customer support immediately.

4.2 Battery Installation

The electronic lock requires 4 AA alkaline batteries (not included). To install:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the electronic keypad.
  2. Slide the battery cover off.
  3. Insert 4 new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery cover.
  5. Test the keypad by pressing any button; the backlight should illuminate.

4.3 Initial Code Setup

Your safe comes with a factory default code. It is crucial to change this immediately.

  1. With the safe door open, locate the red reset button on the inside of the door, near the hinge.
  2. Press the red reset button. You will hear a beep, and the keypad will illuminate.
  3. Within 5 seconds, enter your new 3-8 digit personal code on the keypad.
  4. Press the '✓' (checkmark) button to confirm. You will hear a confirmation beep.
  5. Test your new code with the door open to ensure it works before closing the safe.

4.4 Fingerprint Enrollment

The safe allows for multiple fingerprint registrations. To enroll a fingerprint:

  1. With the safe door open, press the red reset button on the inside of the door.
  2. Place your finger firmly on the fingerprint sensor. The sensor will scan your finger.
  3. Lift and reposition your finger slightly, then place it on the sensor again. Repeat this process 3-5 times until you hear a confirmation beep, indicating successful enrollment.
  4. Test the enrolled fingerprint with the door open to ensure it works.

4.5 Mounting the Safe

Although the safe is freestanding, bolting it down significantly enhances security. The safe can be bolted to a floor or wall.

  1. Choose a suitable location, ensuring the mounting surface is solid and secure.
  2. Open the safe door and locate the pre-drilled mounting holes on the bottom or back panel.
  3. Position the safe and mark the drilling points through the holes onto the mounting surface.
  4. Move the safe and drill pilot holes using an appropriate drill bit for your surface (e.g., masonry bit for concrete, wood bit for studs).
  5. Reposition the safe over the pilot holes.
  6. Secure the safe using the provided mounting hardware (bolts and washers). Tighten firmly.

5. Operating the Safe

5.1 Opening with Electronic Code

  1. Enter your 3-8 digit personal code.
  2. Press the '✓' (checkmark) button.
  3. If the code is correct, you will hear a beep, and the safe will unlock for a few seconds.
  4. Turn the handle clockwise to open the door.

5.2 Opening with Fingerprint

  1. Place your enrolled finger firmly on the fingerprint sensor.
  2. If the fingerprint is recognized, you will hear a beep, and the safe will unlock for a few seconds.
  3. Turn the handle clockwise to open the door.

5.3 Closing and Locking the Safe

  1. Close the safe door firmly.
  2. Turn the handle counter-clockwise until it is fully engaged. The safe will automatically lock.

5.4 Emergency Override Key

In case of battery failure or forgotten code, the safe can be opened using the emergency override key.

  1. Locate the keyhole, usually concealed behind a small cover on the keypad assembly.
  2. Remove the cover.
  3. Insert the emergency override key and turn it clockwise.
  4. While holding the key turned, rotate the handle clockwise to open the door.
  5. Once open, remove the key.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Replacement

When the batteries are low, the keypad may emit a warning beep or the backlight may dim. Replace batteries promptly to avoid being locked out.

  1. Follow the steps in Section 4.2 for battery installation.
  2. Always replace all 4 AA batteries at the same time with new alkaline batteries.

6.2 Cleaning

Clean the safe exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish or electronic components. Keep the fingerprint sensor clean and dry for optimal performance.
