Introduction

The Shure BLX1 is a wireless bodypack transmitter designed for seamless integration with compatible Shure BLX series receivers, including BLX4, BLX4R, and BLX88, provided they operate within the same frequency band. This transmitter offers reliable performance with up to 14 hours of operation on two AA batteries and supports a transmission range of up to 300 feet (100 meters) line-of-sight under typical conditions. What's Included

Note: A compatible BLX receiver and microphone are required for operation and are sold separately.

Setup Instructions

1. Battery Installation

To install the batteries:

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the BLX1 bodypack transmitter.
  2. Insert the two supplied AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2. Connecting a Microphone or Instrument Cable

The BLX1 transmitter features a TA4F connector, compatible with Shure lavalier, lapel, headworn microphones, and instrument cable accessories (sold separately).

  1. Align the TA4F connector of your microphone or instrument cable with the input jack on the top of the BLX1 transmitter.
  2. Push the connector in until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, press the release tab on the connector and pull it out.

3. Pairing with a Receiver

The BLX1 transmitter must be paired with a compatible Shure BLX series receiver (BLX4, BLX4R, or BLX88) operating on the same frequency band (J11 Band: 596-616 MHz). Ensure your receiver is also set to the J11 band.

  1. Turn on your BLX receiver and perform a channel scan to find the best available frequency.
  2. Turn on the BLX1 transmitter.
  3. Set the transmitter to the same group and channel as displayed on your BLX receiver. Refer to your receiver's manual for specific pairing instructions.

Operating Instructions

Powering On/Off

Use the power switch located on the top of the BLX1 transmitter to turn the unit on or off. The LED indicator will illuminate when the unit is powered on.

Adjusting Gain

The BLX1 transmitter features a gain adjustment dial inside the battery compartment. This allows you to optimize the audio input level to prevent distortion or ensure sufficient signal strength.

  1. Open the battery compartment.
  2. Locate the gain dial.
  3. Use a small screwdriver or similar tool to rotate the dial to increase or decrease the gain.
  4. Monitor the audio level on your receiver to achieve optimal sound without clipping.

Frequency Selection

The BLX1 operates on the J11 band (596-616 MHz). It is crucial that your BLX receiver is also set to the J11 band for proper communication. The BLX system offers easy frequency matching to ensure clear transmission.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the transmitter. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Care: Remove batteries from the transmitter if it will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage. Always use fresh, high-quality AA batteries for optimal performance.
  • Storage: Store the transmitter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Antenna: Ensure the antenna is not bent or damaged. A damaged antenna can affect wireless range and performance.
