Introduction
The Blackburn Wayside CO2 Thread-On Inflator is designed for rapid and efficient tire inflation. Its simple, spring-loaded valve design ensures quick operation with minimal effort. This inflator is compatible with most threaded CO2 cartridges and supports both Presta and Schrader valves.
Key features include:
- Thread-On Design: Securely attaches to Presta or Schrader valves for a reliable connection during inflation.
- Universal Valve Compatibility: Works with Presta, Schrader, and Dunlop valves without leaks or complications.
- Fast Inflation: Engineered for quick tire inflation on mountain bikes (MTB), cyclocross (CX), and gravel bikes.

Setup
- Prepare the CO2 Cartridge: Ensure you have a threaded CO2 cartridge. Do not puncture the cartridge until ready for inflation.
- Attach Cartridge to Inflator: Carefully thread the CO2 cartridge onto the inflator head. Tighten until snug. The cartridge will be punctured upon full engagement. Be aware of cold gas release.
- Identify Valve Type: Determine if your bicycle tire uses a Presta or Schrader valve. The Wayside inflator is compatible with both.

Operating Instructions
- Prepare Tire Valve:
- For Presta valves: Unscrew the valve cap and then unscrew the small knurled nut at the top of the valve stem. Press down briefly to release a small amount of air, ensuring the valve is open.
- For Schrader valves: Unscrew the valve cap. No further action is typically needed.
- Attach Inflator to Valve: Firmly thread the inflator head onto the tire valve. Ensure a secure, tight connection to prevent air leakage.
- Inflate Tire: Once the inflator is securely attached, press the inflator head firmly onto the valve stem. The spring-loaded mechanism will release CO2 into the tire. Hold firmly until the desired pressure is reached or the cartridge is empty. Note: CO2 cartridges become very cold during discharge. It is recommended to wear gloves or use a protective sleeve.
- Remove Inflator: Once inflation is complete, unthread the inflator from the tire valve. Replace the valve cap (and tighten the Presta valve nut if applicable).
- Dispose of Cartridge: Safely dispose of the empty CO2 cartridge according to local regulations.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the inflator clean with a damp cloth after use. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Storage: Store the inflator in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Do not store with a CO2 cartridge attached for extended periods.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the inflator for any signs of wear or damage, especially to the valve seals.
Troubleshooting
- Issue: Air leaks during inflation.
- Solution: Ensure the inflator is threaded securely and tightly onto the tire valve. For Presta valves, confirm the knurled nut is fully unscrewed before attaching the inflator. Check for any debris on the valve stem or within the inflator head that might prevent a proper seal.
- Issue: CO2 cartridge does not puncture or gas does not release.
- Solution: Verify the CO2 cartridge is fully threaded onto the inflator head. Some inflators require a firm push or twist to engage the puncture pin. Ensure the cartridge is not defective. If the issue persists, the inflator's internal mechanism may be obstructed or damaged.
- Issue: Tire does not inflate to desired pressure.
- Solution: A single CO2 cartridge may not be sufficient for larger volume tires (e.g., fat bike tires) or to reach very high pressures. Consider using a larger cartridge or multiple cartridges if needed. Ensure there are no leaks from the tire itself.
