Product Overview

The Shure SLXD14/SM35 Digital Wireless Microphone System provides transparent, 24-bit digital audio and reliable RF performance. Designed for diverse applications, from conferences to live performances, this system offers easy setup and robust operation. It operates within the H55 band (514-558 MHz), supporting up to 32 compatible systems per 44 MHz band.

Setup Guide

1. Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all items listed in the "What's in the Box" section are present and undamaged. Retain original packaging for future storage or transport.

2. Battery Installation (SLXD1 Bodypack Transmitter)

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the SLXD1 bodypack transmitter.
  2. Open the compartment cover.
  3. Insert the two supplied AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: The system supports optional Shure SB903 Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries for extended monitoring of battery status.

3. Receiver Connection (SLXD4)

  1. Connect the supplied power supply to the SLXD4 receiver's power input and to an AC power outlet.
  2. Attach the two antennas to the antenna connectors on the rear of the receiver. Ensure they are finger-tight.
  3. Connect the audio output of the SLXD4 receiver to your mixer or amplifier using an XLR or 1/4" cable (cables not included).
  4. If rackmounting, install the receiver using the provided rackmount accessories.

4. Headset Microphone Connection (SM35)

Connect the SM35 headworn microphone's TA4F connector to the input jack on the SLXD1 bodypack transmitter. Ensure it clicks into place.

5. Frequency Band Selection

This system operates in the H55 band (514-558 MHz). Before initial use, it is recommended to perform an RF scan to find an open frequency and link the transmitter to the receiver. Refer to the Shure website for detailed information on wireless frequency compatibility in your area.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On/Off

  • Receiver (SLXD4): Press the power button on the front panel to turn the unit on or off.
  • Transmitter (SLXD1 Bodypack): Press and hold the power button on the bodypack until the display illuminates (on) or turns off (off).

2. Syncing Transmitter and Receiver

For optimal performance, the transmitter and receiver must be synced to the same frequency. Use the IR Sync feature for quick and easy pairing:

  1. On the SLXD4 receiver, press the Sync button. The IR window will begin flashing.
  2. Align the IR window on the SLXD1 bodypack transmitter with the IR window on the receiver.
  3. Hold them together until the display on the transmitter confirms successful synchronization.

3. Adjusting Gain/Levels

The gain level of the microphone can be adjusted on the SLXD1 bodypack transmitter to optimize audio input. Consult the receiver's display for audio level indicators to prevent clipping or distortion.

4. Locking and Unlocking Controls

To prevent accidental changes to settings during operation, both the receiver and transmitter controls can be locked. There are different lock types available, including locking the menu only or locking both menu and power.

  • Locking an SLX-D Receiver: Navigate to Advanced Settings, select Device Lock, and choose "Lock Menu" or "Lock Menu & Power".
  • Unlocking an SLX-D Receiver: Return to the Device Lock menu and select "Unlock".
  • Activating Auto-Lock on Handheld & Bodypack: Press Menu to navigate to the Auto Lock screen, then press Enter and Menu to change the setting to "On".
  • Unlocking Controls on Handheld & Bodypack: Press Menu for the unlock prompt, then press Enter and Menu to temporarily unlock. Controls will re-lock when the home screen displays.
  • Setting the Lock Type on Handheld & Bodypack: Press Menu to navigate to Lock Type, then choose "Menu Only" or "Menu & Power".
  • Disabling Auto-Lock on Handheld & Bodypack: Unlock controls, return to the Auto-Lock menu screen, then press Enter and Menu to change the setting to "Off".

Maintenance

Cleaning

Regularly wipe down the receiver, transmitter, and microphone with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure no moisture enters any openings. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

Battery Care

If using disposable AA batteries, remove them if the system will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage. If using rechargeable batteries, follow the manufacturer's guidelines for charging and storage to maximize battery life.

Storage

Store the system in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the provided zippered bag or a suitable case to protect components from dust and physical damage.
