Figure 1: Cisco 8800 Series Key Expansion Module (KEM) connected to a compatible IP Phone. The KEM features a large display screen showing multiple line appearances or contacts, such as "Tracy Porter" and "James Carpenter," along with their status (e.g., call duration, remote status). To the right of the display, there are multiple physical buttons, each with an associated LED indicator (green for active, orange for hold, red for busy). At the bottom, two larger buttons labeled "1" and "2" are visible, likely for page navigation or additional functions.

Operating the Key Expansion Module

The KEM provides additional programmable buttons to extend the functionality of your Cisco IP Phone. These buttons can be configured to represent additional lines, speed dials, or other features as defined by your system administrator.

Understanding the Display and Buttons

Refer to Figure 1 for a visual representation of the KEM's components.

Basic Operation

  1. Accessing Lines/Features: Press the physical button next to the desired line or feature displayed on the screen.
  2. Switching Pages: If your KEM has multiple pages of lines/features, press the "1" or "2" button at the bottom to navigate between them.
  3. Call Management: When a call is active on a line associated with the KEM, the corresponding LED will illuminate. You can typically use the KEM button to switch to that line, place it on hold, or perform other call actions as configured.

For specific button configurations and advanced features, consult your system administrator or the documentation for your primary Cisco IP Phone.
