4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Adjusting Grind Size
The TIMEMORE Chestnut C3 features a point-to-point coarseness adjuster. To adjust the grind size:
- Ensure the grounds container is removed.
- Hold the grinder body firmly.
- Turn the adjustment dial at the bottom of the burr assembly. Turning clockwise results in a finer grind (smaller numbers/clicks), while turning counter-clockwise results in a coarser grind (larger numbers/clicks).
- Each 'click' represents a step in grind size adjustment.
Recommended Starting Grind Settings (Clicks from fully tightened/zero point):
- Espresso: 6-8 clicks
- Moka Pot: 9-12 clicks
- Aeropress: 12-16 clicks
- Pour-Over/Drip Coffee: 16-20 clicks
- French Press/Cold Brew: 20-24 clicks
Note: These are starting points. Adjust based on your specific brewing equipment and coffee beans for optimal extraction.

4.2. Grinding Process
- Load Beans: Remove the lid and pour your desired amount of whole coffee beans into the hopper. The grinder can hold approximately 25g of beans.
- Secure Lid and Handle: Place the lid back on the hopper and attach the handle to the shaft.
- Grind: Hold the grinder body firmly with one hand and turn the handle clockwise with the other. The grinding action should be smooth and consistent due to the ball-bearing mounted handle.
- Collect Grounds: Once grinding is complete, unscrew the grounds container from the bottom of the grinder to access your fresh coffee grounds.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your grinder.
- Disassembly: Unscrew the grounds container, then carefully remove the grind adjustment dial and the inner burr.
- Brush Cleaning: Use a soft brush (a dedicated coffee grinder brush is recommended) to remove any residual coffee grounds from the burrs, shaft, and interior of the grinder body.
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the grinder body with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Reassembly: Reassemble all parts in reverse order. Ensure the inner burr is correctly aligned before reattaching the adjustment dial.
Important: Do not wash the burr set or internal mechanisms with water, as this can lead to rust and damage. Only use dry cleaning methods for these components.
6. Troubleshooting
- Grinder feels stiff or difficult to turn:
Possible Cause: Grind setting is too fine, or burrs are clogged.
Solution: Adjust to a coarser grind setting. Disassemble and clean the burrs thoroughly. - Inconsistent grind size:
Possible Cause: Burrs are loose, or grinder needs cleaning.
Solution: Ensure all parts are securely tightened after assembly. Clean the burrs to remove any buildup. - Espresso shot chokes or flows too fast:
Possible Cause: Grind size is incorrect for espresso.
Solution: For choking, adjust to a slightly coarser setting (e.g., from 7 clicks to 8 clicks). For too fast flow, adjust to a finer setting (e.g., from 8 clicks to 7 clicks). Experiment with small adjustments to find the optimal setting for your espresso machine and beans.
