Setup and First Use
- Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
- Inspect: Check for any damage to the carafe or plunger assembly.
- Clean: Before first use, wash all parts (carafe, plunger, lid) with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Assemble: Ensure the filter screen is securely attached to the plunger rod and the lid.
Operating Instructions
Brewing Coffee
- Heat Water: Heat fresh water to just below boiling (approximately 200°F / 93°C).
- Add Coffee Grounds: For an 8-cup French press, add approximately 8 tablespoons (or 2 scoops) of coarse ground coffee to the carafe. Adjust to your preferred strength.
- Add Hot Water: Pour hot water over the coffee grounds, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Fill to just below the spout.
- Stir (Optional): Gently stir the coffee and water mixture with a non-abrasive spoon.
- Place Plunger: Place the plunger assembly on top of the carafe, with the filter resting just above the water level. Do not press down yet.
- Brew: Allow the coffee to brew for 4 minutes. For a stronger brew, extend the time.
- Press: Slowly and steadily press the plunger down. Do not force it. If it's too difficult to press, the grind might be too fine. If it plunges too easily, the grind might be too coarse.
- Serve: Pour the freshly brewed coffee immediately to prevent over-extraction.
Brewing Tea
- Heat Water: Heat fresh water to the appropriate temperature for your tea type (e.g., 175°F / 80°C for green tea, 200°F / 93°C for black tea).
- Add Tea Leaves: Add your desired amount of loose leaf tea to the carafe.
- Add Hot Water: Pour hot water over the tea leaves.
- Place Plunger: Place the plunger assembly on top, with the filter resting just above the water level.
- Steep: Allow the tea to steep for the recommended time for your tea type.
- Press: Slowly and steadily press the plunger down to separate the leaves from the brewed tea.
- Serve: Pour and enjoy.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper cleaning ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your French press.
- After Each Use: Discard coffee grounds or tea leaves. Rinse all parts immediately with warm water.
- Hand Washing Recommended: The French press is not dishwasher safe. Wash all components by hand with warm, soapy water.
- Disassembly for Cleaning: For thorough cleaning, unscrew the filter screen from the plunger rod. Clean all parts, paying special attention to the mesh filter to remove any trapped particles.
- Rinse and Dry: Rinse all parts thoroughly to remove soap residue. Allow to air dry completely before reassembling or storing.
