2. Setup

Before initial operation, ensure the generator is placed on a level surface and all components are securely assembled.

2.1 Unpacking and Assembly

Upon unpacking, verify all included items are present:

  • Generator Unit
  • Battery
  • Wheel Kit
  • Engine Oil (1.2 quarts of 10W-30)
  • Oil Funnel

Assemble the wheel kit and attach the handles according to the detailed instructions provided in the separate assembly guide. Connect the battery as instructed to enable the electric start feature.

2.2 Adding Engine Oil

  1. Ensure the generator is off and on a level surface.
  2. Locate the oil fill cap/dipstick.
  3. Using the provided oil funnel, carefully pour the 1.2 quarts of 10W-30 engine oil into the engine.
  4. Check the oil level with the dipstick; it should be at the full mark. Do not overfill.
  5. Securely replace the oil fill cap/dipstick.

2.3 Adding Fuel

This generator operates on gasoline. Always use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Do not use E85 fuel.

  1. Ensure the generator is off and cool.
  2. Open the fuel cap.
  3. Carefully fill the 5.7-gallon fuel tank, leaving space for expansion. Do not overfill.
  4. Securely close the fuel cap.

WARNING: Gasoline is highly flammable. Handle with extreme care. Refuel in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources. Do not smoke while refueling.

3. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your generator.

3.1 Starting the Generator

  1. Ensure the generator is on a level surface, outdoors, and away from windows or vents.
  2. Verify the oil and fuel levels are adequate.
  3. Turn the fuel valve to the 'ON' position.
  4. If starting in cold weather, engage the choke.
  5. For electric start: Press and hold the electric start toggle switch. Release once the engine starts.
  6. For recoil start: Pull the recoil cord firmly and steadily until the engine starts.
  7. Once the engine starts, gradually disengage the choke (if used).

3.3 Stopping the Generator

  1. Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator.
  2. Allow the generator to run for a few minutes without load to cool down.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the 'OFF' position.
  4. Turn the fuel valve to the 'OFF' position.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your generator.

4.1 Engine Oil

The generator is equipped with a low oil shut-off sensor to prevent engine damage. Check the oil level before each use and change the oil after the first 5 hours of operation, then every 50 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Use 10W-30 engine oil.

4.2 Air Filter

Inspect the air filter regularly and clean or replace it as needed, especially in dusty conditions. A dirty air filter can reduce engine performance.

4.3 Spark Plug

Inspect the spark plug annually or every 100 hours. Clean or replace it if necessary to ensure reliable starting and efficient engine operation.

4.4 Fuel System

If storing the generator for an extended period (over 30 days), drain the fuel tank and carburetor or use a fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel degradation.

4.5 Intelligauge Monitoring

The Intelligauge display tracks run-time hours, which is useful for scheduling maintenance intervals.

5. Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common operational issues. For problems not listed here, contact Champion Support.

5.1 Engine Does Not Start

  • No Fuel: Check fuel level and add fresh gasoline if needed.
  • Low Oil: Verify engine oil level. The low oil shut-off sensor will prevent starting if oil is insufficient.
  • Choke Position: Ensure the choke is correctly set for starting, especially in cold weather.
  • Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage.
  • Battery (Electric Start): Ensure the battery is connected and charged.

5.2 No Power Output

  • Circuit Breaker Tripped: Check the circuit breakers on the control panel and reset if tripped.
  • Overload: Reduce the total wattage of connected devices.
  • Connections: Ensure all power cords are securely plugged into the generator outlets.

5.3 Engine Runs Poorly

  • Stale Fuel: Use fresh gasoline.
  • Air Filter: Clean or replace a dirty air filter.
  • Spark Plug: Inspect and clean or replace the spark plug.
