1. Product Overview

The Epiphone SG Standard '61 from the new Inspired by Gibson Collection faithfully recreates the iconic 1961 Gibson SG, from its inaugural year of production. This electric guitar features a classic Mahogany body finished in Vintage Cherry and is equipped with powerful ProBucker humbucking pickups, complemented by high-quality CTS electronics. It is designed to deliver the authentic tone and feel of a vintage SG at an accessible price point.

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the guitar from its packaging. Inspect the instrument for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Verify that all included accessories, such as the warranty information and any adjustment tools, are present.

3.2 Initial Tuning

The guitar is equipped with Grover tuners for stable tuning. Gently stretch each string after initial tuning to help it settle. Repeat the tuning process until the strings hold pitch consistently. Standard tuning is E-A-D-G-B-e from lowest to highest string.

3.3 Connecting to an Amplifier

Locate the 1/4 inch (6.35mm) audio jack on the lower bout of the guitar body. Insert a standard instrument cable into this jack and connect the other end to your guitar amplifier's input. Ensure your amplifier is powered off before making connections to prevent sudden loud noises.

4. Operating the Guitar

4.1 Pickup Selector Switch

The 3-way toggle switch allows you to select different pickup configurations:

• Up Position (Rhythm): Activates the neck pickup only, providing a warmer, fuller tone.
• Middle Position: Activates both neck and bridge pickups, offering a balanced tone.
• Down Position (Treble): Activates the bridge pickup only, producing a brighter, more aggressive tone.

4.2 Volume and Tone Controls

Each pickup has independent volume and tone controls. The two upper knobs control the neck pickup's volume and tone, while the two lower knobs control the bridge pickup's volume and tone. Rotate clockwise to increase volume or brightness, and counter-clockwise to decrease.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Regularly wipe down the guitar with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. For a deeper clean, use a guitar-specific polish or cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials or household cleaners, which can damage the finish.

5.2 String Replacement

Replace strings regularly to maintain optimal tone and playability. When replacing strings, do so one at a time to maintain neck tension. Use high-quality nickel strings for best results.

5.3 Fretboard Care

The Indian Laurel fretboard benefits from occasional conditioning. Use a fretboard conditioner or lemon oil (specifically for guitar fretboards) to prevent drying and cracking. Apply sparingly with a clean cloth and wipe off any excess.

5.4 Hardware Inspection

Periodically check all screws and nuts for tightness, especially on the tuners, bridge, and strap buttons. Do not overtighten. The LockTone ABR bridge and stopbar tailpiece are designed to stay in place even when strings are removed, simplifying string changes.
