4. Setup
4.1. Initial Inspection
Upon unpacking, inspect the device for any visible damage. If any damage is found, contact your supplier immediately.
4.2. Battery Installation
The HL-1D requires one CR2 battery for operation. To install or replace the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Use a coin or a flat-head screwdriver to gently twist the cover counter-clockwise to unlock it.
- Insert the CR2 battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the cover and twist clockwise to lock it securely.
4.3. Software Installation
To configure the data logger, download data, and analyze measurements, you will need the Rotronic HW4-lite software. This software is essential for full functionality, including setting logging intervals, alarm thresholds, and managing data files.
- Visit the official Rotronic website (www.rotronic.com) to download the latest version of HW4-lite software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software on your computer.
- Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the software.
4.4. Connecting to a Computer
Use the provided USB cable to connect the HL-1D data logger to your computer. The USB port is located on the back of the device. Once connected, the HW4-lite software should detect the device, allowing you to proceed with configuration or data download.
5. Operation
5.1. Power On/Off
The device powers on automatically when a battery is inserted. It remains in a low-power state until logging is initiated or a button is pressed. There is no manual power-off button; the device enters a sleep mode when inactive or logging is stopped.
5.2. Display Modes
Press the MODE button to cycle through different display views:
- Current Values: Shows real-time temperature and humidity.
- Minimum Values: Displays the lowest recorded temperature and humidity during the current logging session.
- Maximum Values: Displays the highest recorded temperature and humidity during the current logging session.
- Average Values: Shows the average temperature and humidity for the current logging session.
5.3. Starting and Stopping Data Logging
To begin or end a data logging session:
- To Start Logging: Press and hold the START/STOP button for approximately 3 seconds until the display indicates that logging has begun (e.g., a blinking icon or specific message).
- To Stop Logging: Press and hold the START/STOP button again for approximately 3 seconds until the display indicates that logging has stopped.
The logging interval can be configured using the HW4-lite software, ranging from 30 seconds to 24 hours. The device has a storage capacity of 64,000 data points.
5.4. LED Indicators
The HL-1D features two LED indicators that provide status information:
- Green LED: Flashes when logging data, indicating normal operation.
- Red LED: Flashes when measured values reach or exceed configured alarm limits, or when the battery is low.
6. Data Management
Data recorded by the HL-1D can be downloaded and analyzed using the Rotronic HW4-lite software.
- Connect the HL-1D to your computer using the USB cable.
- Launch the HW4-lite software.
- The software will detect the connected device. Follow the software's instructions to download the logged data.
- Once downloaded, you can view, graph, export, and manage your data. The software supports features for 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP 5 compliance, ensuring data integrity and audit trails.
7. Maintenance
7.1. Cleaning
Clean the exterior of the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the device in water. Ensure the ventilation slots are free from dust and debris.
7.2. Storage
When not in use for extended periods, store the HL-1D in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It is recommended to remove the battery if storing for several months to prevent leakage.
7.3. Calibration
For applications requiring high accuracy and compliance, periodic calibration of the HL-1D is recommended. Refer to the Rotronic HW4-lite software for calibration options or contact Rotronic support for professional calibration services.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your HL-1D data logger, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not turn on/display is blank. | Dead or incorrectly installed battery. | Check battery polarity. Replace with a new CR2 battery. |
| Cannot connect to computer/software. | USB cable issue, driver not installed, software not running. | Ensure USB cable is securely connected. Reinstall HW4-lite software and drivers. Try a different USB port. |
| Data logging not starting. | START/STOP button not held long enough, device memory full. | Press and hold START/STOP button for 3 seconds. Download data and clear device memory using HW4-lite. |
| Readings appear inaccurate. | Sensor obstruction, device placed in unsuitable environment, calibration needed. | Ensure ventilation slots are clear. Move device to a stable environment. Consider professional calibration. |
| Red LED flashing. | Alarm limit exceeded or low battery. | Check current readings against set alarms. Replace battery if low. |
