Setup

Loading Lead

  1. Remove the eraser from the top of the pencil.
  2. Insert new 0.7 mm lead refills into the opening.
  3. Do not overfill; typically, 2-3 leads are sufficient.
  4. Replace the eraser firmly.

Replacing the Eraser

  1. Gently pull the existing eraser straight out from the top of the pencil.
  2. Insert a new Faber-Castell compatible eraser into the opening until it sits securely.

Operating Instructions

Advancing Lead

The Poly Matic mechanical pencil features an automatic lead advance mechanism. As you write, the lead will automatically extend as it wears down, eliminating the need to click the top button frequently. For initial lead extension or if more lead is desired, press the top button.

Retracting the Tip

To protect the lead and prevent accidental marks, the tip of the pencil is fully retractable. Gently push the tip back into the barrel when not in use. This feature also makes the pencil pocket-safe.

Using the Eraser

The integrated eraser at the top of the pencil can be used for corrections. To expose more eraser, twist the top part of the pencil barrel. After use, twist it back to retract the eraser.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Wipe the exterior of the pencil with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or smudges. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these may damage the soft-touch surface or finish.

Lead and Eraser Replacement

Regularly check lead and eraser levels. Replace them as described in the "Setup" section to ensure optimal performance. Use only Faber-Castell 0.7 mm B-grade leads and compatible erasers for best results.

Troubleshooting

  • Lead Not Advancing: Ensure the pencil is loaded with 0.7 mm lead. If lead is present, gently press the top button several times. If the issue persists, check for any broken lead fragments obstructing the mechanism.
  • Lead Breaking Frequently: This may occur if excessive pressure is applied during writing. The pencil has a cushioning mechanism to reduce lead breakage, but very heavy pressure can still cause issues. Ensure you are using B-grade 0.7 mm lead.
  • Tip Not Retracting: Check for any debris or lead fragments caught in the tip mechanism. Gently try to retract the tip. Do not force it.
