Operating Modes
Mode Navigation
Press the C button (MODE) to cycle through the watch's various modes in the following order: Timekeeping Mode → Calculator Mode → Alarm Mode → Dual Time Mode → Stopwatch Mode → Timekeeping Mode.
Timekeeping Mode
This is the default mode, displaying the current time (hours, minutes, seconds), day of the week, and AM/PM indicator (for 12-hour format). The full date (Year-Month-Day) can be displayed by holding the ÷ button.
Calculator Mode
To access the 8-digit calculator, press the C button (MODE) until 'CAL' appears on the display. Use the numeric keypad for calculations. The watch supports basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Constants for calculations are indicated by a 'K' on the display after double-pressing an operation button (e.g., X X for squaring).
Alarm Mode
In Alarm Mode, you can set a daily alarm. Press the B button (LIGHT/SET) to adjust the alarm time. Press the 4 button (ALM ON/OFF) to toggle the alarm on or off. To test the alarm sound, hold down the 0 and + buttons simultaneously while in Alarm Mode.
Dual Time Mode
The Dual Time Mode allows you to keep track of a second time zone. To set the dual time, enter Dual Time Mode, then press and hold the C button (MODE) until the hour digits flash. Use the number buttons to set the hour and minutes. The seconds automatically synchronize with the main timekeeping mode.
Stopwatch Mode
The stopwatch measures elapsed time with 1/100-second accuracy, up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds. Press the 3 button (START/STOP) to start and stop the stopwatch. Press the 1 button (LAP/RESET) to record lap/split times or to reset the stopwatch to zero. A single beep will sound every 10 minutes while the stopwatch is running.
Hourly Time Signal
To activate or deactivate the hourly time signal (a short beep every hour on the hour), press the X button while in Timekeeping Mode or Alarm Mode. An indicator will appear on the display when the hourly time signal is active.
Battery Saver (Key Press Beep)
To disable the key press operation tone, which can conserve battery life, navigate to the Calculator Mode and press the recessed B button (located below the C button). This will silence the button beeps, but will not affect the alarm or hourly time signal sounds.
Care and Maintenance
Water Resistance
Your Casio CA53W watch is designed to be water resistant. This means it can withstand splashes of water or brief exposure during hand washing. It is not suitable for swimming, diving, or submerging in water. Prolonged exposure to water or use in hot water (e.g., showers) may compromise its water resistance.
Battery Replacement
The watch uses one CR2016 Lithium Metal battery, which provides an approximate battery life of 5 years. When the display becomes dim or functions become erratic, it may be time to replace the battery. It is recommended to have the battery replaced by a qualified watch technician to ensure proper sealing and maintain water resistance.
Cleaning
To clean your watch, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth dampened with water and a mild neutral detergent, then wipe dry. Avoid using volatile agents like thinner or benzine, as they may damage the resin components.

Troubleshooting
Display Issues
- No display or dim display: The battery may be low or depleted. Replace the battery.
- Inverted display readability: This model features an inverted display (dark background, light digits). While aesthetically unique, it may be slightly harder to read under harsh glare compared to traditional displays. Ensure adequate lighting for optimal readability.
Button Malfunction
- Buttons unresponsive: Check if the watch is in a setting mode. If not, a low battery or internal issue might be present. Try resetting the watch by briefly touching the AC (All Clear) contact on the module to the battery's positive terminal (requires opening the watch back, recommended for professionals).
- Small buttons: The calculator buttons are small. Use the tip of your finger or a fingernail for precise input.
Time Inaccuracy
- Time is incorrect: Re-set the time and date following the instructions in the "Setting the Time and Date" section.
