Product Overview
The VANGUARD VESTA FB 235AB is a lightweight and compact aluminum travel tripod kit designed for portability while providing a stable base for mirrorless or DSLR camera systems. This kit includes an aluminum tripod and an Arca Swiss compatible ball head.
With a maximum load capacity of 9.9 pounds, it is suitable for most camera setups. The 23mm aluminum legs feature 5 sections, allowing the tripod to fold down to a compact 14.8 inches for easy transport. The VESTA FB models are equipped with quick flip leg locks for secure and rapid setup.
Despite its compact size, the tripod extends to 56 inches. For macro and low-angle photography, it offers three easy-set leg angles (21°, 50°, and 80°) and includes a low angle adaptor, enabling the removal of the central column to get closer to the ground. The central column can also be reversed for alternative low-angle shooting.
The included VESTA T-51 Ball Head is Arca Swiss compatible, featuring a large locking knob for easy adjustments and a QS-64 quick release plate. A separate pan-lock on the head allows for smooth panoramic movements without affecting the camera's level.

Setup Guide
1. Unfolding the Tripod
To prepare the tripod for use, first release the leg angle locks located at the top of each leg. Gently pull each leg outwards until it clicks into one of the three available angle positions. For maximum stability, ensure all legs are set to the same angle.

2. Extending the Legs
Each leg consists of multiple sections. To extend a leg section, open the corresponding quick flip lock. Pull the leg section outwards to the desired length, then firmly close the flip lock to secure it. Repeat for all sections on all three legs until the tripod reaches the desired height.

3. Attaching the Camera
The VESTA T-51 Ball Head uses an Arca Swiss compatible QS-64 quick release plate. Attach the QS-64 plate to the bottom of your camera by screwing the D-ring screw into the camera's tripod mount. Ensure it is tightened securely.
To mount the camera onto the ball head, loosen the main locking knob on the ball head. Align the quick release plate with the clamp on the ball head and slide it in. Once positioned, tighten the main locking knob firmly to secure the camera. Always double-check that the camera is securely attached before releasing your grip.
Operating Instructions
Adjusting the Ball Head
The VESTA T-51 Ball Head allows for flexible camera positioning. Loosen the large main locking knob to adjust the camera's angle and tilt. Once the desired position is achieved, tighten the knob firmly to lock the camera in place.
For panoramic shots, use the separate pan-lock knob located at the base of the ball head. Loosen this knob to rotate the camera horizontally without affecting the tilt. Tighten it to lock the panning movement.

Using the Central Column
The central column can be extended for additional height. Loosen the central column locking knob, raise the column to the desired height, and then tighten the knob securely. For low-angle or macro photography, the central column can be reversed or removed entirely using the low angle adaptor.
To reverse the central column: Fully extend and remove the central column from the tripod. Invert the column and reinsert it into the tripod base, securing it with the central column locking knob. This allows for shooting from directly above or very close to the ground.

Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Vanguard Vesta FB 235AB tripod, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: After use, especially in dusty, sandy, or wet environments, wipe down the tripod with a clean, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals. For sand or grit in leg sections, extend them fully and clean thoroughly.
- Lubrication: Periodically check the movement of leg sections and flip locks. If they become stiff, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the moving parts. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust.
- Storage: Store the tripod in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure it is clean and dry before storage to prevent corrosion.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect all screws, bolts, and locking mechanisms for tightness. Tighten any loose components to maintain stability.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Leg sections are stiff or difficult to extend/retract. | Accumulation of dirt, dust, or sand; lack of lubrication. | Clean leg sections thoroughly. Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the sliding surfaces. |
| Quick flip locks do not hold legs securely. | Locks are worn or dirty; tension screw needs adjustment. | Clean the lock mechanism. Check for an adjustment screw (often an Allen key type) near the hinge of the flip lock and tighten slightly if loose. |
| Ball head movement is not smooth or locks loosely. | Main locking knob not tightened sufficiently; internal mechanism dirty. | Ensure the main locking knob is fully tightened. If issues persist, clean the ball head exterior and contact support if internal cleaning is suspected. |
| Camera wobbles on the quick release plate. | Quick release plate not securely attached to camera; plate not fully seated in ball head clamp. | Ensure the D-ring screw on the QS-64 plate is tightly fastened to the camera. Verify the plate is fully inserted into the ball head clamp and the clamp's locking knob is firmly tightened. |
