1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and proper use of your Yale YSFB/250/EB1 Motorized High-Security Safe. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation to ensure optimal performance and security.

The Yale Fingerprint motorized high-security safes are reliable, premium quality products featuring a laser-cut door, reinforced hinges, and automatic spring-loaded door opening. A digital keypad with a blue backlit LCD screen includes all the features and benefits of a motorized safe.

2. Safety Information

  • Do not store the emergency key inside the safe. Keep it in a secure, separate location.
  • Keep your user codes and master codes confidential and do not write them down where they can be easily found.
  • Ensure the safe is securely mounted to prevent unauthorized removal.
  • Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears to avoid being locked out.
  • This safe is designed for indoor use only.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

  1. Open the safe door using the emergency key (refer to Section 5.3 for emergency key use).
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the inside of the door.
  3. Insert the 4 AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover.

4.2. Mounting the Safe

The safe is equipped with pre-drilled holes for secure mounting to a wall or floor. It is recommended to fix the safe using the provided metal fixing bolts to prevent unauthorized removal.

  • Choose a suitable location for installation.
  • Mark the drilling points through the holes located on the bottom and/or back of the safe.
  • Drill holes in the wall or floor using an appropriate drill bit.
  • Position the safe and secure it using the provided fixing bolts.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Initial Opening and Closing

Upon first use, open the safe using the emergency key. Once open, install the batteries as described in Section 4.1.

5.2. Programming User Code

The user code can be 3 to 8 digits long. It is recommended to program the code with the safe door open.

  1. With the door open, press the # button. The display will show 'PROG'.
  2. Enter your desired 3 to 8 digit user code.
  3. Press the # button again to confirm. The display will show 'GOOD' to indicate successful programming.

5.3. Programming Fingerprints

The safe allows for multiple fingerprints to be stored. It is recommended to program fingerprints with the safe door open.

  1. With the door open, press the ✓ (check mark) button followed by the 5 button. The display will show a message ending with '1', indicating it's ready to capture the first fingerprint image.
  2. Place your finger firmly on the fingerprint scanner. Lift and place your finger two more times as prompted by the display (total of 3 scans for one fingerprint).
  3. The display will show 'GOOD' if the fingerprint is successfully registered.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 to add additional fingerprints (e.g., other fingers or authorized users).

5.4. Opening the Safe

The safe can be opened using a PIN code, fingerprint, master code, or emergency key.

  • Using PIN Code: Enter your 3-8 digit user code and press #. The door will automatically open.
  • Using Fingerprint: Place your registered finger on the fingerprint scanner. The door will automatically open.
  • Using Emergency Key: Remove the small plastic cover next to the fingerprint scanner to reveal the keyhole. Insert the emergency key and turn it to open the safe.

5.5. Closing the Safe

To close the safe, simply push the door shut. The motorized bolts will automatically engage. If the safe was opened using the electronic methods (PIN or fingerprint), it must be closed by pressing the ✓ (check mark) button followed by the key symbol button. If the safe was opened with the emergency key, it must be closed by turning the key back to the locked position.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Battery Replacement

When the batteries are low, the display will indicate a low battery warning. Replace all 4 AA batteries promptly to ensure continuous operation. Refer to Section 4.1 for battery installation steps.

6.2. Cleaning

Clean the safe's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the finish or electronic components.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Safe does not open with PIN/Fingerprint:
    • Check if batteries are depleted. Replace them if necessary.
    • Ensure you are entering the correct PIN or using a registered fingerprint.
    • Try using the external 9V battery power source (see below).
    • Use the emergency key to open the safe.
  • External 9V Battery for Emergency Power: If the internal batteries are completely depleted and you cannot open the safe electronically, you can use an external 9V battery.
    1. Locate the two metal terminals on the keypad panel.
    2. Press a 9V battery firmly against these terminals.
    3. While holding the 9V battery in place, enter your PIN code or use your fingerprint to open the safe.
