4. Installation Instructions
Before beginning installation, ensure the appliance is completely turned off and disconnected from its power source and gas supply. Safety precautions should always be followed when working with gas appliances.
- Access the Ignitor: Locate and access the existing ignitor assembly on your gas appliance. This may require disassembling certain parts of the grill or stove.
- Remove Old Ignitor: Carefully disconnect the old ignitor wire from the igniter unit and remove the ceramic electrode assembly from its mounting bracket. Note how the old ignitor was positioned.
- Prepare New Ignitor: If necessary, use pliers to carefully bend the metal tip of the new ceramic electrode to match the angle and position of the original electrode, ensuring it will be correctly positioned relative to the gas burner for optimal spark. Refer to Image 3.1 for bending guidance.
- Mount New Electrode: Install the new ceramic electrode assembly into the appliance's mounting bracket using the provided screws. Ensure it is securely fastened and positioned correctly.
- Connect Wire: Connect the round pin end of the new ignitor wire to the igniter unit. The connection is typically made by pressing the wire onto the igniter's terminal. Verify that the igniter unit has a compatible 2mm to 2.5mm diameter input for the round pin.
- Test Connection: Before reassembling the appliance, temporarily reconnect power and gas (if safe to do so) and test for a spark. Observe if the spark occurs at the tip of the electrode.
- Reassemble: Once proper function is confirmed, reassemble any parts of the appliance that were removed.

5. Operation
Once the METER STAR ignitor wire and ceramic electrode assembly is correctly installed, its operation is integrated with your appliance's existing ignition system. To ignite your appliance:
- Ensure the gas supply to the appliance is open.
- Activate the igniter button or knob on your appliance according to its specific operating instructions.
- The ignitor wire will transmit the electrical pulse to the ceramic electrode, creating a spark that ignites the gas.
If the appliance does not ignite, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
6. Maintenance
Regular inspection and cleaning can extend the lifespan and ensure reliable performance of your ignitor assembly.
- Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the ceramic electrode for cracks, chips, or excessive carbon buildup. Check the wire for any signs of fraying, cuts, or damage to the insulation.
- Cleaning: If carbon buildup is present on the electrode, gently clean it with a soft brush or fine-grit sandpaper. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the ceramic.
- Connection Check: Ensure the wire connection to the igniter unit remains secure.
- Replacement: Replace the ignitor assembly if the ceramic is cracked, the wire is damaged, or if consistent ignition failures occur despite cleaning and proper connection.
7. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your METER STAR ignitor assembly, consider the following troubleshooting steps:
- No Spark:
- Verify the ignitor wire is securely connected to the igniter unit.
- Inspect the ceramic electrode for cracks or damage. A cracked ceramic can cause the spark to arc elsewhere instead of at the tip.
- Check for excessive carbon buildup on the electrode tip, which can prevent a proper spark. Clean if necessary.
- Ensure the igniter unit itself is functioning correctly.
- Weak or Inconsistent Spark:
- Clean the electrode tip.
- Ensure the electrode tip is positioned correctly relative to the gas port for optimal ignition. Adjust bending if needed.
- Check for any loose connections in the ignitor circuit.
- Ignitor Does Not Fit:
- Confirm the dimensions of the METER STAR ignitor assembly (refer to Image 3.1) against your appliance's requirements.
- Ensure the connector type (round pin) is compatible with your igniter unit.
- The electrode tip can be bent to accommodate different appliance designs, but the overall length and ceramic body dimensions are fixed.
