Safety Information

  • Do not submerge the control box: The control box is not waterproof and should be protected from moisture. Only the search coil is designed for use in water.
  • Keep batteries out of reach of children: Batteries can be a choking hazard and harmful if ingested.
  • Always follow local regulations regarding metal detecting: Be aware of and adhere to all local laws and regulations concerning metal detecting activities in your area.
  • Use caution when digging: Always be mindful of potential underground utilities or hazards when excavating targets.

Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble your SuperEye S3800 Gold Detector:

  1. Attach the Lower Stem: Connect the lower stem to the search coil. Ensure it is securely fastened.
  2. Connect Middle and Upper Stems: Slide the middle stem into the lower stem, and then the upper stem into the middle stem. Adjust the length to your comfort using the adjustment holes and locking mechanisms.
  3. Mount the Control Box: Secure the control box assembly to the upper stem.

  • Target ID Legend: Displays the probable type of metal detected.
  • Mode Cursor: Indicates the currently selected detection mode.
  • Signal Strength Cursor: Shows the strength of the detected signal.
  • ID Cursor (Up Scale): Provides a more precise identification of the target.
  • Notch Cursor (Low Scale): Used for discrimination settings.
  • Coin Depth Cursor: Estimates the depth of the detected coin.
  • Pinpoint Cursor (Digital Cursor): Assists in precisely locating the target.
  • Batty Cursor: Battery level indicator.
  • MODE Button: Cycles through the five detection modes.
  • SENS Button: Adjusts sensitivity.
  • DISC Button: Activates discrimination mode.
  • ELIM Button: Eliminates unwanted metal types.
  • POWER Button: Turns the detector on/off.

Detection Modes

The S3800 offers five distinct detection modes to optimize your search for different types of targets and environments:

  • ALL METAL: Detects all types of metal. Ideal for general searching or when you are unsure of the target type.
  • DISCRIMINATION (DISC): Allows you to ignore certain types of junk metal (e.g., iron) and focus on more valuable targets.
  • NOTCH: Enables you to accept or reject specific target categories by creating "notches" in the detection range.
  • CUSTOM: Allows you to save your preferred discrimination and notch settings for quick access.
  • JEWELRY: Optimized for finding jewelry, often by discriminating against iron and other common trash metals.

To switch between modes, press the MODE button. Use the DISC and ELIM buttons to fine-tune discrimination and notch settings within applicable modes.

Sensitivity Adjustment

Press the SENS button to adjust the detector's sensitivity. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but can also lead to more false signals in mineralized ground or areas with electromagnetic interference. Adjust sensitivity to the highest stable level for your current environment.

Pinpointing Targets

Once a target is detected, use the pinpoint function to precisely locate it before digging. Press and hold the PIN button. Move the search coil slowly over the target area. The detector will provide an audio and visual indication (Pinpoint Cursor) to help you center the coil directly over the target.

Waterproof Search Coil

The 210mm search coil is IP68 waterproof, allowing you to search in shallow water, such as beaches, streams, or ponds. Ensure the control box remains dry, as it is not waterproof.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, especially in sandy or wet conditions, wipe down the search coil and stem with a damp cloth. Ensure the control box is kept clean and dry. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Care: Remove batteries if the detector will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage. Always use fresh, high-quality AA batteries.
  • Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Disassemble if necessary for compact storage.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically check the search coil cable for any signs of wear or damage.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Detector does not power on.Dead or incorrectly installed batteries.Replace with fresh AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
Erratic signals or false readings.High sensitivity setting, electromagnetic interference, or highly mineralized ground.Reduce sensitivity. Move away from power lines or other electronic devices. Try a different detection mode or ground balance if available (S3800 has discrimination modes).
No detection or weak signals.Low sensitivity, incorrect mode, or disconnected search coil.Increase sensitivity. Ensure the search coil cable is securely connected. Check the selected detection mode.
Pinpoint function is inaccurate.Coil not centered correctly, or ground conditions.Practice sweeping the coil slowly and precisely over the target area.
