2. Important Safety Instructions

Always read and understand all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

  • Work Area Safety: Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
  • Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Personal Safety: Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
  • Chainsaw Specific Safety:
    • Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands when the engine is running.
    • Ensure proper footing and balance. Do not overreach.
    • Do not operate the chainsaw with one hand unless specifically designed for one-handed operation and you are trained to do so. (Note: This model is designed for one-handed use, but caution is still paramount).
    • Be aware of kickback. Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
    • Wear appropriate protective clothing, including gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and sturdy footwear.
    • Never allow children to operate the chainsaw.
    • Before each use, inspect the chainsaw for damaged parts, loose screws, or any other condition that may affect its safe operation.

  1. Battery Installation:
    • Ensure the battery is fully charged before use.
    • Align the battery with the battery compartment on the tool.
    • Slide the battery into the compartment until it clicks securely into place.
    • To remove, press the release button (if present) and slide the battery out.
  2. Chain and Guide Bar Assembly (if not pre-assembled):
    • Place the chain around the guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges are facing the correct direction (refer to markings on the chain or guide bar).
    • Fit the guide bar and chain onto the chainsaw body, engaging the drive sprocket.
    • Install the side cover and tighten the retaining nuts/screws loosely.
  3. Chain Tensioning:
    • Adjust the chain tension using the tensioning screw/knob. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand.
    • A properly tensioned chain will not sag on the underside of the guide bar and can be pulled away from the bar by about 2-3 mm at the center.
    • Once tension is correct, fully tighten the side cover retaining nuts/screws.
  4. Chain Lubrication:
    • Fill the oil reservoir (if present) with appropriate chain lubricant. If no automatic oiler, manually apply chain oil to the guide bar groove and chain before each use and periodically during operation.
    • The provided oil bottle is for manual application.

5. Operating Instructions

Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) before operating the chainsaw.

  1. Starting the Chainsaw:
    • Ensure you have a firm grip on the handle.
    • Press and hold the safety switch.
    • Squeeze the trigger to start the motor. Release the safety switch once the motor is running.
  2. Cutting Techniques:
    • General Cutting: Place the running chain against the material to be cut. Apply light, steady pressure. Let the saw do the work.
    • Limbing/Pruning: When cutting branches, be aware of the branch's tension. Cut from the side that will relieve pressure first to avoid pinching the bar.
    • Cross-cutting: For cutting across the grain of wood. Ensure the workpiece is stable and supported.
    • Avoid Kickback: Never cut with the tip of the guide bar. Always use the bottom or top edge of the guide bar. Maintain a firm grip and proper stance.
  3. Stopping the Chainsaw:
    • Release the trigger. The chain will stop quickly.
    • Always remove the battery when the chainsaw is not in use, or before performing any maintenance or adjustments.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your X-SAW.

  • Chain Sharpening: A sharp chain is crucial for efficient and safe cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when dull. Refer to specific chain sharpening instructions for your chain type.
  • Chain Lubrication: Ensure the chain is always well-lubricated. Check the oil level (if applicable) or manually apply oil frequently during operation.
  • Cleaning: After each use, clean sawdust, chips, and debris from the guide bar groove, chain, and motor housing. Use a brush or compressed air. Ensure the battery is removed before cleaning.
  • Guide Bar Maintenance: Periodically flip the guide bar to ensure even wear. Clean the guide bar groove to remove any accumulated debris.
  • Storage: Store the chainsaw in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children. Remove the battery before storage.
