EPEVER Tracer-AN Series MPPT Solar Charge Controller

Model: Tracer2210AN

User Manual

1. Introduction

The EPEVER Tracer-AN series solar charge controller is designed for efficient and reliable management of solar power systems. Utilizing advanced Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology, it optimizes energy harvesting from solar modules, improving energy utilization by 10%-30% compared to traditional PWM charging methods. This controller features a common negative design and an intuitive LCD for displaying operational status.

It supports both lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries and incorporates a three-stage charging mode for extended battery life. The controller includes comprehensive electronic protection functions to minimize damage from incorrect installation or system failures, ensuring safer and more reliable operation of your solar power supply system.

Important Safety Note: When wiring the controller, do not close the circuit breaker or fuse until all connections are secure. Ensure that the leads of the positive (+) and negative (-) poles are connected correctly. A fuse, with a current rating 1.25 to 2 times the rated current of the controller, must be installed on the battery side, no more than 150 mm from the battery. If the controller is used in an area with frequent lightning strikes or an unattended area, an external surge arrester must be installed. If an inverter is to be connected to the system, connect the inverter directly to the battery, not to the load side of the controller.

4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your solar charge controller. Please follow these general guidelines:

  1. Mounting: Choose a dry, well-ventilated location away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Ensure adequate clearance around the controller for heat dissipation.
  2. Wiring Sequence: Always connect the battery to the controller first, then the solar panel, and finally the load. Disconnect in the reverse order.
  3. Cable Sizing: Use appropriate cable gauges for all connections to minimize voltage drop and ensure safety. Refer to the specifications section for recommended cable sizes.
  4. Fuse Installation: Install a fuse on the battery side as close to the battery as possible (within 150mm).
  5. Grounding: The Tracer-AN series features a common negative ground design. Ensure proper grounding of the system.
  6. Temperature Sensor: Connect the Remote Temperature Sensor (RTS) to the controller and place its tip near the battery to enable accurate temperature compensation for charging.
  7. Remote Meter/PC Connection: Connect the MT50 remote meter or your PC via the RS485 cable for monitoring and configuration.

5. Wiring Diagram

EPEVER Tracer-AN Solar Charge Controller Wiring Diagram

Image: A comprehensive wiring diagram illustrating the connections for the EPEVER Tracer-AN solar charge controller, including solar panels, battery, load (such as lights, fans, TV), computer, and an inverter.

The diagram above illustrates the typical wiring connections for the Tracer-AN solar charge controller in a solar power system. Ensure all connections are secure and correctly polarized before applying power.

  • Solar Panel Connection: Connect your solar array to the PV input terminals.
  • Battery Connection: Connect your battery bank to the battery terminals. This connection must be made first.
  • Load Connection: Connect your DC loads (e.g., lights, fans) to the load terminals.
  • Inverter Connection: If using an inverter, connect it directly to the battery terminals, not the load terminals of the controller.
  • Communication Ports: Use the RS485 port to connect to the MT50 remote meter or a computer for system monitoring and parameter adjustments.

6. Supported Battery Types

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your solar charge controller:

  • Cleanliness: Keep the controller clean and free from dust and debris. Use a dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Connections: Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose connections can lead to overheating and poor performance.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not blocked to allow for proper heat dissipation.
  • Battery Inspection: Regularly inspect your batteries for any signs of damage, swelling, or leaks. Ensure battery terminals are clean.
  • System Performance: Monitor the system's performance via the MT50 or PC software to detect any deviations from normal operation.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your EPEVER Tracer-AN controller, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Display/Power: Check battery connections and ensure the battery voltage is within the controller's operating range. Verify the fuse on the battery line.
  • No Charging: Ensure solar panels are connected correctly and receiving sufficient sunlight. Check PV voltage on the display. Verify that the battery type setting is correct.
  • Load Not Working: Check load connections and ensure the load current does not exceed the controller's rating. Verify load control settings (e.g., timer, manual switch).
  • Abnormal Readings: Ensure the Remote Temperature Sensor (RTS) is properly connected and placed. Check communication cable connections for the MT50 or PC.
  • Overheating: Ensure adequate ventilation around the controller. Reduce load if consistently overheating.
