- Remove the rear lens cap from the lens and the body cap from your camera.
- Align the white index mark on the lens barrel with the white index mark on your camera's lens mount.
- Insert the lens into the camera mount and rotate it clockwise until it clicks into place. Do not force the lens.
- Attach the lens hood by aligning the mark on the hood with the mark on the front of the lens, then twist until it locks.
Initial Checks
After attaching the lens, turn on your camera and perform a quick test shot to ensure proper communication between the lens and camera body.
4. Operating the Lens
Autofocus (AF) and Manual Focus (MF)
The lens features a switch on the barrel to toggle between Autofocus (AF) and Manual Focus (MF) modes. In AF mode, the camera will automatically focus on your subject. In MF mode, you can manually adjust the focus by rotating the focus ring.
Zoom Ring
Rotate the zoom ring to adjust the focal length between 24mm and 70mm. The markings on the barrel indicate the current focal length. The lens also features a zoom lock switch at 24mm to prevent accidental extension during transport.
AFL Button
The AFL (Autofocus Lock) button can be customized via your camera's menu to perform various functions, such as locking autofocus, activating eye-AF, or other programmable controls.
5. Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance will extend the life and performance of your Sigma lens.
- Cleaning the Lens: Use a soft, lint-free cloth and a specialized lens cleaning solution to gently wipe the front and rear elements. For dust, use a blower brush first. Avoid touching the glass with your fingers.
- Storage: When not in use, store the lens with both caps attached in its provided case or a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Dust Accumulation: While the lens has dust-resistant construction, some users have reported minor internal dust accumulation over time. This typically does not affect image quality but may require professional cleaning if it becomes significant.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art lens, consider the following common solutions:
- Autofocus Issues: Ensure the AF/MF switch is set to AF. Check camera settings for focus mode (e.g., Single-shot AF, Continuous AF). Clean lens and camera contacts.
- Image Softness: Ensure the lens is securely mounted. Check aperture settings (shooting wide open at F2.8 might show slight softness at edges, which is normal for some lenses). Ensure proper focus.
- Lens Not Recognized: Turn off the camera, remove and reattach the lens, ensuring it clicks into place. Check for any firmware updates for both the lens and camera body.
- Unusual Noises: If the lens makes unusual noises, discontinue use and contact Sigma support or a qualified repair center.
