Operating the Camera

1. Understanding Camera Modes

The WCS-5020 typically operates in different modes:

  • OFF: Camera is powered off.
  • SETUP: Allows access to the menu for changing settings, viewing photos/videos, and formatting the SD card.
  • ON (Monitoring Mode): The camera is active and will capture photos or videos based on motion detection and configured settings. The screen will turn off to conserve power.

2. Configuring Recording Settings

Access the camera's menu via the 2-inch screen to adjust recording parameters:

  • Photo Resolution: Set to 12 Megapixels for high-quality still images.
  • Video Resolution: Set to 1080p for Full HD video recording.
  • PIR Interval: This setting determines the delay between detections before the camera triggers again. Adjustable from 1 second to 30 minutes.
  • Time Lapse: The camera features a periodic trigger function, allowing it to capture images at set intervals from 1 second to 24 hours, regardless of motion.
  • Night Vision: The camera is equipped with 2 infrared LED lights for night use, providing detailed black and white images up to 25 meters. Ensure this feature is enabled for nighttime monitoring.

  • PC Connection: Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The camera will appear as a removable disk drive, allowing you to copy files directly from the microSD card.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camera lens and body. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure no moisture enters the camera. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the screen or when performance degrades. Always replace all 4 batteries at once with new ones.
  • MicroSD Card Management: Regularly format the microSD card (after backing up important files) to maintain optimal performance and prevent data corruption.
  • Water Resistance: The camera is IP-65 certified, meaning it is protected against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction. While it is weather-resistant, avoid submerging the camera in water. Ensure all covers (battery compartment, USB port) are securely closed when in use outdoors.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and store the camera in a cool, dry place.

Troubleshooting

  • Camera not powering on:
    • Check if batteries are inserted correctly with correct polarity.
    • Ensure batteries have sufficient charge. Replace with new ones if necessary.
    • Verify the power switch is in the "SETUP" or "ON" position.
  • Poor image/video quality:
    • Clean the camera lens.
    • Ensure sufficient lighting during daytime recording.
    • For night vision, ensure the subject is within the 25-meter infrared range.
    • Check resolution settings in the menu.
  • Camera not detecting motion:
    • Adjust PIR sensitivity in the camera settings.
    • Ensure there are no obstructions in front of the PIR sensor.
    • Check the camera's placement; avoid direct sunlight or heat sources that might cause false triggers or prevent detection.
  • MicroSD card error:
    • Ensure the microSD card is properly inserted.
    • Try formatting the card via the camera's menu (this will erase all data).
    • Test with a different, known-good microSD card.
