5.3 Pressure Release
After pressure cooking, there are two methods for releasing pressure:
- Natural Release: Allow the pressure to dissipate naturally. This is recommended for foamy foods or large cuts of meat. The float valve will drop when pressure is released.
- Quick Release: Carefully turn the pressure release valve to the "Venting" position. Steam will rapidly escape. Keep hands and face away from the steam. Only use for foods that are not foamy or liquid-heavy.
Do not attempt to open the lid until the float valve has dropped completely, indicating all internal pressure has been released.
5.4 Cooking Time Examples
Approximate cooking times for common foods:
- Chicken: 16 minutes (High Pressure) or 2 hours (Slow Cooked)
- Rice: 8 minutes (High Pressure) or 1 hour (Slow Cooked)
- Beef, Pork, Lamb: 20 minutes (High Pressure) or 3 hours (Slow Cooked)
