Setup
- Battery Installation: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the device. Insert the two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the battery compartment cover securely.
- Power On: Press and hold the power button (usually marked with an ON/OFF symbol) for more than 0.5 seconds until the LCD screen illuminates.
- Initial Check: The gauge will perform a self-test. Ensure the display shows clear readings and no error messages.
Operating Instructions
Power On/Off
- To Turn On: Press and hold the power button for more than 0.5 seconds.
- To Turn Off: Press and hold the power button until the screen goes blank.
- Automatic Shut-off: The gauge will automatically turn off after 5 minutes of inactivity. To disable this feature, press the Menu/Setup button and uncheck the 'Auto Off' radio button (if available in your model's menu).
Taking Measurements
- Ensure the gauge is powered on.
- Select the desired measurement mode (Single Point or Continuous) by pressing the 'MODE/RESET' button.
- Place the probe vertically and lightly against the surface to be measured. Press it quickly and smoothly.
- Read the thickness value displayed on the LCD screen. The gauge will automatically detect the substrate type (Fe or NFe).

Unit Switching
- Press the 'um/mils' button to switch between micrometers (µm) and mils (mil) units.
Calibration
Regular calibration ensures the accuracy of your measurements. The gauge supports zero-point and multi-point calibration.
- Entering Calibration Mode: Long press and hold the 'CALIB/ZERO' button to enter calibration mode.
- Zero-Point Calibration: In calibration mode, place the probe directly on the bare aluminum (NFe) or iron (Fe) substrate provided. Press the 'CALIB/ZERO' button to perform zero calibration for that substrate.
- Multi-Point Calibration: For more precise calibration, use the provided calibration films. Place a film of known thickness on the substrate, then place the probe on the film. Adjust the reading using the up/down buttons to match the film's thickness, then confirm. Repeat for other film thicknesses as needed.
- Exiting Calibration Mode: Press the 'MODE/RESET' button to exit calibration mode and return to measurement mode.

Maintenance
- Battery Storage: If the gauge will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries and store them separately. This prevents potential damage to the device from battery leakage.
- Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Always store the coating thickness gauge in its protective carrying pouch when not in use to prevent damage. Keep it in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
Troubleshooting
- Device Not Turning On: Ensure batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
- Inaccurate Readings: Perform a calibration as described in the 'Calibration' section. Ensure the probe is clean and free of debris. Verify the substrate is clean and flat (or appropriately curved for the V-groove probe).
- Display Issues: If the display is dim or flickering, replace the batteries. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
- No Substrate Detection: Ensure the probe is making proper contact with the surface. The gauge may not detect very thin coatings or non-metallic substrates.
Applications
The Neoteck Coating Thickness Gauge is a versatile tool suitable for various applications:
- Automotive Industry: Ideal for inspecting car paint thickness, especially useful for used car buyers to detect repainted areas or accident damage.
- Manufacturing: Quality control in production lines for coated parts.
- Metal Processing: Measuring plating and coating thickness on various metal components.
- Chemical Industry: Ensuring proper coating application for corrosion protection.
- General Inspection: For any application requiring non-destructive measurement of paint, enamel, chrome, or anodized coatings on steel, aluminum, or copper.
