2. Safety Information
This alarm is UL Certified, meeting safety standards UL 2034 and UL217. Proper placement and regular testing are crucial for effective operation. Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be fatal. This alarm is designed to detect its presence, but it is not a substitute for proper maintenance of fuel-burning appliances.
Recommended Placement
Install combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and in the hallway outside of sleeping areas. Avoid placing alarms within 6 feet of fuel-burning appliances to prevent nuisance alarms. Refer to the diagram below for general guidance.

4. Setup and Installation
The Kidde P3010K-CO alarm is designed for simple installation. The unit automatically activates once it is properly attached to the mounting bracket.
Installation Steps:
- Select an appropriate location on a wall or ceiling, following the placement guidelines in Section 2.
- Secure the mounting bracket to the chosen location using the provided screws.
- Align the alarm with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it locks into place. This action will automatically activate the alarm.
- Test the alarm immediately after installation by pressing and holding the Test/Hush button until the alarm sounds.

5. Operating Instructions
Normal Operation
In standby condition, the green LED will flash once every 60 seconds, indicating that the unit has power and is operating correctly.

Alarm Modes
- Smoke Alarm: 3 long beeps, 1-second pause, repeating. The red LED will flash in sync with the alarm.
- CO Alarm: 4 quick beeps, 5-second pause, repeating. The red LED will flash in sync with the alarm.
Hush Feature
The Smart-Hush button can temporarily silence nuisance alarms (e.g., from cooking or shower steam) for approximately 8 minutes. Press the Test/Hush button to activate this feature. The red LED will blink every 10 seconds during the hush mode.

Low Battery Indication
When the battery is low, the alarm will chirp every 60 seconds, and the green LED will blink every 30 seconds. This indicates the unit is nearing the end of its operational life and requires replacement.

6. Maintenance
The Kidde P3010K-CO alarm is sealed and has no serviceable parts. Regular cleaning is recommended to ensure optimal performance.
Cleaning
Clean the alarm annually. Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner or compressed air to remove dust and debris from the alarm openings. Do not paint the alarm.
End of Unit Life
At the end of its 10-year operational life, the unit will chirp twice every 30 seconds, indicating it needs to be replaced. To disable the alarm permanently for disposal, break the tab on the back of the unit as indicated on the product label.
7. Troubleshooting
If the alarm sounds unexpectedly or exhibits unusual behavior, refer to the following common scenarios:
- Nuisance Alarms: If the alarm sounds due to routine cooking or shower steam, press the Test/Hush button to temporarily silence it for approximately 8 minutes.
- Constant Chirping: If the alarm chirps every 60 seconds, it indicates a low battery or end-of-life condition. If the green LED also blinks every 30 seconds, it's a low battery warning. If it chirps twice every 30 seconds, the unit has reached its end of life and must be replaced.
- No Power Indication: Ensure the alarm is correctly twisted onto its mounting bracket to ensure activation.
