1. Introduction

The SUNPOW Metal Detector is a versatile and high-accuracy device designed for both adults and beginners in metal detecting. Equipped with an advanced DSP chip and a waterproof search coil, it offers various modes to help you locate different types of metals in diverse environments. This manual provides essential information on setting up, operating, and maintaining your metal detector to ensure optimal performance and a rewarding experience.

2. Safety Information

Caution: To avoid injury or damage, use this metal detector in a stable and open area. Be aware of potential tripping hazards and uneven surfaces. Do not use near water or in wet conditions, except where explicitly stated by the manufacturer. Do not touch the search coil or metal detector stem while in operation to avoid electrical shock. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper usage, handling, and storage.

3. Package Contents

Before you begin, please ensure all components listed below are present in your package:

4. Assembly and Setup

Follow these steps to assemble your SUNPOW Metal Detector:

1. Attach Control Box to Upper Stem: Take down the control box from its reverse side shipping position. Connect the control box to the upper stem, ensuring the display faces forward. Secure it with the provided screws.
2. Connect Search Coil to Lower Stem: Attach the 10-inch waterproof search coil to the lower stem. Secure it firmly with the provided bolt and wing nut.
3. Assemble Stems: Connect the lower stem (with search coil) to the middle stem, and then connect the middle stem to the upper stem (with control box). Ensure the spring clips snap into place for a secure connection.
4. Wrap Cable: Wrap the search coil cable neatly around the stem, ensuring it is not too tight or loose. Secure it with any provided clips or ties. Plug the cable connector into the corresponding port on the control box.
5. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the control box. Insert 8 AA batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
6. Adjust Length: Adjust the length of the assembled detector to a comfortable height by loosening and tightening the locking collars on the stems. The adjustable stem ranges from 47.3" to 55.2".

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off & Volume

• To power on, rotate the VOL knob clockwise until you hear a click and the display lights up.
• To adjust volume, continue rotating the VOL knob.
• To power off, rotate the VOL knob counter-clockwise until it clicks off.

5.2 Detection Modes

The detector offers four powerful detection modes:

• ALL METAL Mode: Detects all types of metals, including iron, aluminum, gold, bronze, and silver. This mode is ideal for general metal detection and offers a ground balance adjustment function to reduce interference from mineralized soil.
• DISC Mode: Allows you to eliminate unwanted metal targets, improving detection efficiency. Use the "+" / "-" buttons to increase or decrease the range of discrimination.
• NOTCH Mode: Provides precise discrimination by allowing you to ignore specific unwanted metal targets. Press the SET button to light the DISC/NOTCH symbol, then use "+" / "-" to select and reject target categories.
• PINPOINT (P/P) Mode: Used to accurately pinpoint the exact location of a detected target.

5.3 Ground Balance

The Ground Balance function helps to offset the effect of mineralization in the soil, which can cause false signals. This function is available only in ALL METAL Mode.

• Begin with the GND BAL knob set to the position of P Region (fully clockwise).
• Press the GND TRAC (P/P) button while pumping the search coil up and down over the ground.
• Adjust the GND BAL knob slowly counter-clockwise until the false signals from the ground disappear.

5.4 Sweeping Technique

For best results, sweep the search coil from side to side, keeping it parallel to the ground and about 1-2 inches above the surface. Overlap each sweep by about half the coil's diameter. Adjust the search coil angle according to different terrains.

6. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Wipe the search coil and stem with a damp cloth after each use, especially after detecting in wet or sandy conditions. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
• Battery Care: Remove batteries if the detector will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage. The detector requires 8 AA batteries.
• Storage: Store the metal detector in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures. Use the provided carrying backpack for protection during transport and storage.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your metal detector, try the following:

• No Power: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are fresh. Verify the VOL knob is turned on.
• False Signals: Adjust Ground Balance (in ALL METAL mode). Ensure the search coil cable is securely wrapped and connected. Avoid highly mineralized areas or areas with significant electrical interference.
• Poor Detection Depth: Increase sensitivity using the "+" button. Ensure the search coil is parallel to the ground during sweeps.
• Noisy Operation: Reduce sensitivity. Move away from power lines or other electronic devices.
