The Duncan Torque Yo-Yo is constructed from precision-machined aircraft-grade aluminum, ensuring durability and consistent performance. It features a licensed concave bearing for extended spin times and an SG response system designed to increase friction for high-performance tricks.
Setup
What's in the Box
- 1 x Duncan Torque Yo-Yo (Gold)
Attaching the String
- Unwind the yo-yo string.
- Separate the two strands of the string at the end opposite the finger loop.
- Place the yo-yo over the separated strands.
- Pull the loop over the yo-yo and tighten it around the bearing. Ensure the string is securely seated in the gap.
Adjusting String Length
For optimal play, the string length should be adjusted to your height. With the yo-yo hanging to the floor, the string should reach your belly button. If it's too long, tie a new knot to create a finger loop at the desired length and cut off the excess string.
Operating
The Duncan Torque is an unresponsive yo-yo, meaning it will not return to your hand with a simple tug. It requires a "bind" trick to return. This design allows for longer spin times and more complex string tricks.
Basic Throw and Bind Return
- The Sleeper: Hold the yo-yo in your throwing hand, palm up. Swing your arm forward, releasing the yo-yo with a strong, straight throw. The yo-yo should spin at the end of the string without returning.
- The Bind: While the yo-yo is spinning at the end of the string, bring your throwing hand forward and slightly up, creating a small loop of string near the yo-yo. Use your non-throwing hand's index finger to push a small section of the string into the gap, causing it to catch and wind back up to your hand. This technique requires practice.

Maintenance
String Replacement
Yo-yo strings wear out over time. Replace your string regularly (e.g., every few hours of play or when it shows signs of fraying) to ensure optimal performance and safety. Follow the "Attaching the String" steps to replace it.
Bearing Care
The concave bearing is crucial for long spin times. Keep the bearing clean and free of dust or debris. If the yo-yo's spin time decreases significantly or it becomes noisy, the bearing may need cleaning. Use a specialized yo-yo bearing cleaning solution or mineral spirits. Avoid using water or harsh chemicals.
To access the bearing, carefully unscrew the two halves of the yo-yo. The bearing is located on the axle. Use a bearing removal tool or a small, thin object to gently pry the bearing off the axle.
Yo-Yo Body Care
Wipe the yo-yo body with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints and dirt. Avoid dropping the yo-yo, as this can damage the aluminum body or affect its balance, impacting performance.
Troubleshooting
- Yo-Yo Not Spinning Long Enough:
- Check if the string is properly seated in the bearing.
- The bearing may be dirty or need lubrication (use only specialized yo-yo bearing lubricant).
- The string might be old and need replacement.
- Yo-Yo Not Returning (Binding Issues):
- Ensure you are performing the bind trick correctly. This requires practice.
- The string might be too worn or too thick/thin for the gap.
- The SG response pads might be worn out and need replacement.
- Yo-Yo Vibrates Excessively:
- Check if the two halves of the yo-yo are screwed together tightly.
- Inspect the yo-yo for any dents or damage that might affect its balance.
- The bearing might be damaged or not seated correctly.
