5. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is critical for the safety and performance of your awning. It is recommended that two people perform the installation.

5.1 Choosing Installation Location

The awning is ideal for shading above windows or doors, or for general patio use. Ensure the mounting surface is strong enough to support the awning's weight and operational forces.

Recommended Installation Height: 8-13 feet from the ground to the top of the awning.

5.2 Mounting Surface Compatibility

This awning can be secured to reinforced concrete, brick, and wooden walls.

  • For Reinforced Concrete/Brick: Use the provided expansion bolts.
  • For Wooden Wall: Use the provided wood screws. It is recommended to drill 0.26" pilot holes for these.

5.3 Important Installation Notes

  • DO NOT remove the safety wrap that holds the awning arms down until instructed. Serious injury can result from removing the wrap too soon.
  • DO NOT fully tighten the screw nuts during initial assembly. Leave about 0.5" space in between to allow for adjustments.

5.4 Angle Adjustment

Each awning comes with a pre-set pitch/angle that is considered ideal. However, if you need to make an adjustment, it can be done in just a few easy steps using the adjustment bolt (often referred to as a Jack Bolt).

6. Operating Instructions

Your AECOJOY Patio Awning operates manually using the provided crank handle.

6.1 Extending the Awning

  1. Locate the eyelet on the side of the awning mechanism.
  2. Insert the hook of the manual crank handle into the eyelet.
  3. Turn the crank handle clockwise to extend the awning. Continue turning until the awning reaches your desired projection or is fully extended. Do not force the crank past its maximum extension.

6.2 Retracting the Awning

  1. Insert the hook of the manual crank handle into the eyelet.
  2. Turn the crank handle counter-clockwise to retract the awning. Continue turning until the awning is fully retracted against the wall.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help prolong the life of your awning.

  • Cleaning the Fabric: Clean the polyester fabric with mild soap and water. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before retracting to prevent mildew.
  • Frame Inspection: Periodically inspect the frame, arms, and mounting hardware for any signs of wear, corrosion, or loosening. Tighten any loose bolts or screws.
  • Lubrication: Lightly lubricate moving parts of the mechanism (e.g., arm joints, crank mechanism) annually with a silicone-based spray to ensure smooth operation.
  • Winter Storage: In areas with harsh winters, it is recommended to keep the awning fully retracted and consider using a protective cover to shield it from heavy snow and ice.
