1. Important Safety Information

2.2 Initial Assembly

1. Handle Attachment: Attach the handle to the designated location on the sander.
2. Dust Collection: Connect a 4-inch dust collection hose to the integrated dust port. An efficient dust collection system is crucial for performance and safety.
3. Placement: Place the sander on a stable, level workbench.

2.3 Abrasive Wrap Installation/Replacement

The sander comes with an 80-grit abrasive wrap preinstalled. To replace or install a new abrasive:

1. Ensure the machine is unplugged.
2. Open the drum cover.
3. Utilize the toolless abrasive take-up fasteners to secure the new abrasive wrap around the self-cooling aluminum drum. Ensure the abrasive is taut and properly aligned.

3. Operation

This section details the steps for operating your JET Benchtop Drum Sander safely and effectively.

3.1 Powering On and Controls

1. Plug the sander into a grounded 115V, 1Ph electrical outlet.
2. The control system includes an integrated circuit breaker to protect the motor from overheating.
3. Turn on the conveyor belt using the designated switch.
4. Turn on the sanding drum motor.
5. Adjust the feed rate using the infinitely-variable speed control, ranging from 0-10 FPM (Feet Per Minute).

3.2 Sanding Procedure

1. Adjusting Height: Use the height adjustment crank to set the desired sanding depth. Make small adjustments between passes.
2. Feeding Material: Feed the workpiece onto the conveyor belt. The machine can sand boards up to 3 inches thick.
3. Wide Boards: The open-ended design allows for sanding boards up to 20 inches wide by making two passes, flipping the board between passes.
4. Parallelism Adjustment: If needed, use the parallelism adjustment dial to ensure the conveyor bed is parallel to the sanding drum for consistent thickness.

4.1 Cleaning

• Dust Hood: Regularly clean the innovative dust hood and 4-inch dust port to maintain efficient dust extraction.
• Conveyor Belt: Keep the conveyor belt clean and free of debris to ensure consistent feeding.

4.2 Abrasive Replacement

5. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your drum sander.

• Motor Not Spinning: Check the power connection and the integrated circuit breaker. If the breaker has tripped, reset it. Ensure the emergency stop is not engaged.
• Circuit Breaker Trips Frequently: This often indicates the machine is being overloaded. Reduce the depth of cut or slow down the feed rate. Ensure the motor is not overheating.
• Inconsistent Sanding/Snipe: Verify that the conveyor bed is parallel to the sanding drum using the parallelism adjustment dial. Ensure the abrasive wrap is installed correctly and is not worn out.
• Conveyor Belt Drift: Adjust the conveyor belt trackers to ensure the belt runs straight and consistently.
• Poor Dust Collection: Check for clogs in the dust hood or hose. Ensure your dust collection system has adequate suction for a 4-inch port.
• Abrasive Paper Tearing: Ensure the abrasive is properly tensioned and secured by the toolless fasteners. Overloading the machine can also cause abrasive tearing.
