1. Product Overview

The ZKTeco WL20 is a wall-mounted fingerprint and password-based time recorder designed for efficient attendance management. It features a high-sensitivity fingerprint sensor for quick and accurate authentication, and a 2.8-inch color LCD for clear display. This device supports up to 1,000 users and stores up to 50,000 attendance records. It offers automatic calculation of working hours and allows for easy report generation via USB memory stick, promoting a paperless environment.

2. Setup and Installation

2.1 Package Contents

Before beginning installation, please verify that all items are present in the package:

  • ZKTeco WL20 Time Recorder Unit (x1)
  • Power Adapter (x1)
  • User Manual (Japanese, x1)
  • Mounting Accessories (screws, wall plugs)

2.2 Wall Mounting

The WL20 is designed for wall-mounted installation. Follow these steps for secure mounting:

  1. Select a suitable location on a wall, ensuring it is at an appropriate height for users to access the fingerprint sensor and screen.
  2. Use the provided mounting bracket as a template to mark the drilling points on the wall.
  3. Drill holes at the marked points and insert the wall plugs.
  4. Secure the mounting bracket to the wall using the provided screws.
  5. Carefully align the WL20 device with the mounting bracket and slide it down to secure it in place.

2.3 Power Connection

Connect the provided power adapter to the device's power input port and then plug it into a standard electrical outlet. The device will power on automatically.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 User Registration (Fingerprint and Password)

The device supports both fingerprint and password authentication. To register a new user:

  1. Access the device menu (usually by pressing 'M/OK' or a dedicated menu button).
  2. Navigate to "User Management" or "New User".
  3. Select "Register Fingerprint" and follow the on-screen prompts to scan the user's finger multiple times for accurate registration.
  4. Alternatively, or in addition, select "Register Password" and enter a numerical password for the user.
  5. Assign a user ID and name. The device supports English and Japanese name input. For Japanese names, refer to section 3.4.

3.2 Fingerprint Authentication

To record attendance using a fingerprint:

  1. Place your registered finger flat on the fingerprint sensor located at the bottom of the device.
  2. Hold your finger steady until the device confirms successful recognition.
  3. The device will display a confirmation message and record your check-in or check-out time.

3.3 Password Authentication

If fingerprint authentication is not possible (e.g., due to hygiene or environmental factors), or as an alternative method, you can use password authentication:

  1. Press the 'M/OK' button to activate the keypad.
  2. Enter your registered numerical password using the keypad.
  3. Press 'M/OK' again to confirm.
  4. The device will display a confirmation message and record your attendance.

3.4 Japanese Name Input Method

To register user names in Japanese, an external computer and USB memory are required:

  1. Download: Insert a USB memory stick into the device and download the attendance setting sheet.
  2. Open: Open the "AttSetting" Excel file on your PC.
  3. Input: Enter Japanese or English names into the shift setting report within the Excel file.
  4. Upload: After editing, upload the attendance setting sheet from the USB memory stick back to the device.

Note: The Excel file name is set at the factory. It is recommended not to change the file name for proper operation.

3.5 Downloading Attendance Reports

The device automatically aggregates working hours. To download attendance reports:

  1. Insert a USB memory stick into the USB port on the device.
  2. Navigate to the "Report Management" section in the device menu.
  3. Select the desired report type (e.g., daily, monthly) and date range.
  4. Initiate the download. The attendance data will be saved to the USB memory stick in an Excel-compatible format.

This feature significantly reduces manual aggregation work, improving operational efficiency and supporting environmental protection by reducing paper usage.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Device

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your ZKTeco WL20, regular cleaning is recommended:

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the device.
  • For the fingerprint sensor, gently wipe with a clean, lint-free cloth. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the sensor surface.
  • Ensure no liquids enter the device.

4.2 Data Backup

Regularly back up your attendance data by downloading reports to a USB memory stick. This ensures that your records are safe in case of unexpected issues with the device.

5. Troubleshooting
