4. Setup and Installation
- Power Disconnection: Before beginning, ensure the power to the fixture is completely turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Verify with a voltage tester if necessary.
- Fixture Compatibility: Confirm that your lighting fixture is designed for T5 fluorescent tubes and is compatible with 14-watt lamps. Using an incompatible fixture or ballast can damage the tube or fixture.
- Remove Old Tube (if applicable): Carefully twist the old fluorescent tube 90 degrees and gently pull it out of the lampholders. Dispose of old tubes according to local regulations, especially if they contain mercury.
- Insert New Tube: Align the pins on both ends of the SYLVANIA FP14/865/ECO tube with the slots in the lampholders. Gently push the tube into the lampholders until the pins are fully seated, then twist the tube 90 degrees to lock it into place. Do not force the tube.
- Secure Installation: Ensure the tube is securely seated and properly aligned in the fixture.
- Restore Power: Once the tube is securely installed, restore power to the fixture from the circuit breaker or fuse box.
- Test Operation: Turn on the light switch to confirm proper operation.
5. Operating Instructions
Operating the SYLVANIA FP14/865/ECO T5 fluorescent tube is straightforward once installed:
- Turning On: Activate the wall switch or fixture control connected to the fluorescent fixture. The tube should illuminate immediately or after a brief flicker, depending on the ballast type.
- Turning Off: Deactivate the wall switch or fixture control to turn off the light.
For optimal performance and lifespan, avoid frequent on/off cycling.
6. Maintenance
Minimal maintenance is required for your SYLVANIA fluorescent tubes.
- Cleaning: Periodically, with the power off, gently wipe the tube with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth to remove dust and debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Replacement: Replace tubes when they begin to flicker excessively, dim significantly, or fail to light. Always replace with a tube of the same type (T5), wattage (14W), and color temperature (6500K) for consistent lighting.
- Disposal: Fluorescent tubes contain small amounts of mercury. Dispose of old or broken tubes according to local environmental regulations. Many communities have recycling programs for fluorescent lamps.
