2. Setup and Installation

The Yale Assure Deadbolt Lock SL is designed for straightforward installation, typically requiring only a screwdriver. It is compatible with standard doors ranging from 1-3/8 inches to 2-1/4 inches thick.

2.1 Preparing Your Door

Ensure your door is properly prepped for a deadbolt. The lock is designed to replace existing deadbolts. Verify the backset and bore hole dimensions match the lock's requirements as per the included door template.

2.2 Installing the Lock Hardware

1. Remove your existing deadbolt.
2. Install the new deadbolt latch into the door edge.
3. Mount the exterior keypad assembly, ensuring the cable passes through the door.
4. Install the interior mounting plate.
5. Connect the cable from the exterior assembly to the interior assembly.
6. Secure the interior assembly to the mounting plate.
7. Install the 4 AA batteries (included).

2.3 Programming Your Lock

Follow the voice-guided instructions from the lock to set up your master entry code and additional user codes. It is crucial to set the master code first for full functionality.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Unlocking the Door

• Touch the keypad with your palm or fingers to activate it.
• Enter your 4-8 digit entry code.
• Press the checkmark symbol (✓) to confirm. The deadbolt will retract, and the door will unlock.

3.2 Locking the Door

• One-Touch Locking: Simply touch the keypad with your palm or fingers. The deadbolt will extend, and the door will lock.
• Auto-Lock Feature: If enabled, the lock will automatically engage the deadbolt after a preset time (e.g., 30 seconds) once the door is closed.
• Manual Locking (Interior): From the inside, turn the thumbturn to engage the deadbolt.

3.3 Managing User Codes

The lock supports multiple user codes. Refer to the detailed programming guide in the included manual for instructions on adding, deleting, or modifying user codes.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Battery Replacement

The Yale Assure Deadbolt Lock SL operates on 4 AA alkaline batteries. When the batteries are low, the lock will provide an audible and visual low battery warning. It is recommended to replace all four batteries simultaneously with new, high-quality alkaline batteries.

4.2 9V Battery Backup

In the event of complete battery depletion, the lock features external terminals on the bottom of the keypad. Touch a 9V battery to these terminals to temporarily power the lock and enter your code.

4.3 Cleaning

Clean the touchscreen keypad with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or electronics.

5. Troubleshooting

• Lock Not Responding: Check battery levels. If completely depleted, use the 9V battery backup feature.
• Incorrect Code Alarm: If an incorrect code is entered multiple times consecutively, the lock may temporarily disable the keypad and sound an alarm. Wait for the lockout period to expire before attempting to enter the code again.
• Deadbolt Not Extending/Retracting Fully: Ensure the door frame strike plate is properly aligned and the door is not binding. Adjustments to the strike plate may be necessary.
• Voice Prompts Not Heard: Check the volume setting of the lock. This can usually be adjusted through the settings menu on the keypad.
