Model: TWA-U1000R

1. Product Overview

The THINKWARE QHD Rear-View Camera is designed to provide extended video coverage for your vehicle, enhancing surveillance capabilities when paired with compatible THINKWARE dash cams. This camera records in 2K QHD 1440P, capturing detailed video evidence of rear-end incidents. Its compact size allows for discreet installation, maintaining clear visibility.

Compatibility: This rear-view camera is compatible with the THINKWARE U1000 and X1000 Dash Cams (sold separately).

2. What's in the Box

  • THINKWARE U1000/X1000 Rear View Camera
  • Rear Camera Cable (24.5ft)

3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation ensures optimal performance and video quality. It is recommended to route the cable discreetly along the vehicle's interior for a clean setup.

3.1. Physical Installation

  1. Prepare the Mounting Surface: Clean the desired installation area on your rear windshield thoroughly to ensure proper adhesion.
  2. Attach the Camera: Secure the rear camera to the cleaned area using the provided adhesive. Ensure the lens has a clear view of the road behind your vehicle.
  3. Route the Cable: Connect the rear camera cable to the rear camera. Carefully route the 24.5ft cable from the rear camera to the main dash cam unit. This typically involves tucking the cable along the headliner, down the side pillars, and under the floor mats to conceal it.
  4. Connect to Main Dash Cam: Plug the routed cable into the designated rear camera port on your THINKWARE U1000 or X1000 Dash Cam.

3.2. Power Connection (for Main Dash Cam)

The rear camera draws power from the main dash cam unit, which requires its own power source. The main dash cam can be powered via a cigarette lighter adapter or hardwired into the vehicle's fuse box for parking surveillance mode.

  • Cigarette Lighter Adapter: For basic operation, plug the main dash cam's power cable into your vehicle's 12V cigarette lighter socket.
  • Hardwiring (Recommended for Parking Mode): For continuous power and parking surveillance features, hardwire the main dash cam directly to your vehicle's fuse box using a THINKWARE Hardwiring Cable (sold separately). Professional installation is recommended for hardwiring.

4. Operating Instructions

Once installed and powered, the rear camera will automatically begin recording in conjunction with your main dash cam.

4.1. Recording Modes

  • Continuous Recording: The camera records continuously while the vehicle is in operation.
  • Incident Recording: In the event of an impact or sudden braking, the camera automatically saves a segment of footage (10 seconds before and 50 seconds after the event) as an incident file.
  • Parking Surveillance Mode: When hardwired, the camera can detect motion and impact incidents while the vehicle is parked, providing front-and-rear coverage.

4.2. Audio Recording

The main dash cam unit typically includes a microphone to record audio inside the vehicle, complementing the video footage.

5. THINKWARE Dash Cam Link App

The THINKWARE Dash Cam Link app allows you to connect to your dash cam via Wi-Fi for various functions, including live view, file management, and settings adjustments.

5.1. Connecting to the App

  1. Ensure your main dash cam is powered on.
  2. Press the Wi-Fi button on the dash cam to activate its Wi-Fi hotspot.
  3. On your smartphone, open the THINKWARE Dash Cam Link app and connect to the dash cam's Wi-Fi network.

  • Firmware Updates: Check for and install firmware updates to ensure your dash cam has the latest features and bug fixes. This can often be done via the app or by downloading the firmware to the microSD card from the THINKWARE website.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Poor Video Quality: Ensure the lens is clean and free from obstructions. Check the resolution settings in the app. For 4K recording, a higher capacity microSD card (e.g., 128GB) is recommended to avoid frequent overwrites.
  • Camera Not Recording: Verify the power connection to the main dash cam. Check if the microSD card is inserted correctly and has sufficient free space. Format the microSD card if necessary.
  • Battery Drain in Parking Mode: Ensure battery protection is enabled and set to an appropriate voltage cut-off level in the app settings to prevent your vehicle's battery from being fully discharged.
  • Difficulty Reading License Plates: While 2K QHD offers good detail, factors like lighting conditions and vehicle speed can affect clarity. Ensure the camera is properly focused and positioned.
