Setup and Installation

Replacing your existing toilet components with the Fresh Up Kit is a straightforward process. Ensure your RV or caravan toilet is a Thetford C400, C402, or C403 model before proceeding.

  1. Prepare the Area: Ensure the toilet area is clean and free from any debris. It is recommended to wear protective gloves.
  2. Remove Old Waste Tank: Access the cassette compartment from outside your RV/caravan. Unlock and slide out the old waste holding tank. Dispose of its contents responsibly at an approved disposal point.
  3. Insert New Waste Tank: Take the new waste holding tank from the Fresh Up Kit. Ensure the pouring spout is securely closed. Slide the new tank into the cassette compartment until it clicks into place.
  4. Remove Old Toilet Seat and Lid: Open the toilet lid. Depending on your specific C400 model, the seat and lid assembly can usually be unclipped or unscrewed from the toilet base. Refer to your original toilet manual if you encounter difficulty.
  5. Install New Toilet Seat and Lid: Position the new toilet seat and lid onto the toilet base. Align the hinges or clips and press down firmly or secure with screws until it is properly seated and stable.
  6. Add Sanitary Additives: Before first use, add the recommended amount of the provided sanitary additives to the new waste holding tank through the toilet bowl, followed by a small amount of water. Refer to the additive packaging for specific dosage instructions.

    1. Ensure the blade (if applicable) is closed.
    2. Access the cassette compartment and slide out the waste holding tank.
    3. Transport the tank to an approved waste disposal point using its integrated wheels.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and hygienic operation of your Thetford toilet system.

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the toilet seat, lid, and the exterior of the waste tank regularly with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage plastic components or seals.
  • Sanitary Additives: Always use appropriate sanitary additives in the waste holding tank. These additives help break down waste, control odors, and keep the tank clean. The kit includes complimentary additives to get you started.
  • Seal Lubrication: Periodically lubricate the rubber seals of the waste tank and blade (if applicable) with a Thetford-approved seal lubricant or silicone spray. This prevents drying out and ensures smooth operation and a tight seal.
  • Winterization: If storing your RV/caravan in freezing temperatures, ensure the waste tank is completely empty and dry. Follow your RV/caravan manufacturer's guidelines for winterizing the entire plumbing system.
