Setup and First Use
Unpacking
Carefully remove all packaging materials and inspect the appliance for any damage. Ensure all components are present.
Cleaning Before First Use
- Wash the glass carafe, portafilter, and removable drip tray in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water.
Initial Water Cycle
- Fill the water reservoir at the top of the machine with fresh, cold water.
- Place the empty glass carafe on the drip tray.
- Insert the empty portafilter into the portafilter holder and turn it to the right to lock it in place.
- Turn the control dial to the "Brew" setting. Allow the machine to run a full cycle of water through without coffee.
- Discard the water. This primes the system and cleans any manufacturing residue.
Operating Instructions
Making Espresso
- Prepare the Portafilter: Fill the portafilter with desired amount of finely ground espresso coffee. Tamp lightly.
- Insert Portafilter: Align the portafilter with the slot on the machine and turn it firmly to the right until it is securely locked.
- Fill Water Reservoir: Ensure the water reservoir is filled with fresh, cold water.
- Place Carafe: Position the glass carafe on the drip tray directly under the portafilter.
- Brew Coffee: Turn the control dial to the "Brew" setting. The machine will begin to dispense espresso into the carafe.
- Stop Brewing: Once the desired amount of espresso is brewed (typically 2-4 cups), turn the control dial to "Off".

Frothing Milk (for Cappuccinos and Lattes)
- Prepare Milk: Fill a frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to about one-third full.
- Heat Machine: Turn the control dial to the "Steam" setting. Wait for the machine to heat up and produce steam (a light may indicate readiness).
- Position Wand: Submerge the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk.
- Start Steaming: Turn the control dial to the "Steam" setting. Move the pitcher up and down slowly to incorporate air and create foam.
- Stop Steaming: Once desired foam and temperature are reached, turn the control dial to "Off". Carefully remove the pitcher.
- Clean Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying. Run a short burst of steam to clear any internal blockages.
Care and Maintenance
Daily Cleaning
- Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray after each use.
- Portafilter: Remove spent coffee grounds and rinse the portafilter and filter basket.
- Glass Carafe: Wash the carafe with warm, soapy water.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth.
Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits can build up in your machine, affecting performance. Descale your machine every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.
- Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions (or use a mixture of white vinegar and water).
- Fill the water reservoir with the descaling solution.
- Place an empty carafe on the drip tray.
- Run the machine through a full brew cycle with the descaling solution.
- Repeat the process with fresh water to rinse the system thoroughly.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee not brewing. | No water in reservoir; portafilter not locked; machine not heated. | Fill reservoir; secure portafilter; allow machine to heat up. |
| Weak espresso. | Too coarse coffee grounds; insufficient coffee; too much water. | Use finer grind; add more coffee; use less water. |
| No steam from wand. | Wand clogged; machine not heated to steam temperature. | Clean wand; allow machine to fully heat on "Steam" setting. |
| Machine leaking. | Drip tray full; portafilter not sealed correctly. | Empty drip tray; re-seat portafilter firmly. |
