Operating Instructions

Video Quality: 4K Ultra HD

Your Swann system features 4K Ultra HD cameras, providing superior image clarity and detail. This resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) allows for clear identification of faces, license plates, and other critical details, which is four times clearer than 1080p Full HD.

Heat & Motion Detection (True Detect™ PIR)

The cameras are equipped with True Detect™ PIR (Passive Infrared) thermal sensors that accurately detect moving warm objects, such as people and cars. This technology significantly reduces false triggers from non-heat-generating movements like wind-blown branches or rain, ensuring you receive more relevant alerts.

Color Night Vision & Warning Lights

The cameras feature Color Night Vision, allowing you to see events in full color even in low-light conditions, up to 32ft (10m). In total darkness, the cameras provide black and white night vision up to 130ft. The integrated warning lights can illuminate when motion is detected, deterring intruders and enhancing visibility.

Remote Viewing with Swann Security App

Monitor your property from anywhere using the Swann Security app on your mobile device. The app allows for multi-camera live streaming, playback of recorded footage, and receiving instant notifications when activity is detected. The app is available for download on both the App Store and Google Play.

For example, you can say: "Hey Google, show me the front door camera."

Data Storage and Management

The DVR comes with a pre-installed 2TB hard drive for continuous 24/7 recording. Thermal detection helps conserve storage space by only recording relevant events. You can easily transfer incident video via the USB port onto a memory stick or access it through your network.

For added security, you can link your DVR to your personal Dropbox account to automatically save still images to the cloud. This ensures that even if your DVR is compromised, you will still have image evidence stored off-site.

Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: Periodically clean the camera lenses with a soft, damp cloth to ensure clear image quality. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the Swann website or the Swann Security app regularly for firmware updates for your DVR and cameras. Keeping your system updated ensures optimal performance and security.
  • Hard Drive Health: While the 2TB HDD is robust, it's good practice to periodically check its health through the DVR's system settings. Ensure there is sufficient space for recordings.
  • Cable Inspection: Inspect all cables (BNC, Ethernet, power) for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections, especially for outdoor installations.
  • Power Supply: Ensure the DVR and camera power adapters are plugged into stable power sources and are protected from environmental elements.

Troubleshooting

No Video Display

  • Check all cable connections (HDMI/VGA, BNC) between the DVR, cameras, and monitor.
  • Ensure the DVR and cameras are powered on.
  • Verify the correct input source is selected on your TV/monitor.

No Recording / Hard Drive Issues

  • Check the hard drive status in the DVR's system settings.
  • Ensure recording schedules are properly configured.
  • If the hard drive is full, configure it to overwrite old footage or back up important data and format it.

False Motion Alerts

  • Adjust the motion detection sensitivity in the DVR settings.
  • Configure motion detection zones to exclude areas with frequent irrelevant movement (e.g., swaying trees, busy roads).
  • Ensure the True Detect™ PIR sensor is not obstructed.

Remote Viewing Issues

  • Verify the DVR is connected to the internet and has a stable network connection.
  • Ensure your mobile device has an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular data).
  • Check that the Swann Security app is updated to the latest version.
  • Restart your router, DVR, and mobile device.
