4.1. Preparation

  • Ensure the vehicle's ignition is off and the battery is disconnected to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Gather necessary tools: screwdriver set, wire strippers, electrical tape, multimeter, zip ties.
  • Remove the existing tailgate handle.

4.2. Camera and Handle Installation

  3. Connect the camera cable to the extension cable. Ensure the arrows on the connectors are aligned for a proper match.

4.3. Power Connection

The camera requires a 12V power supply.

  1. Identify Power Source:
    • For Camera On Only When Reversing: Connect the red power cable (from the extension cable) to the positive (+) wire of your vehicle's reverse light. Use a multimeter to identify the correct positive wire (e.g., blue/red wire in some Tundra models). Connect the black ground cable to a suitable chassis ground or the negative (-) wire of the reverse light.
    • For Camera Always On (if desired): Connect the red power cable to a switched 12V power source (e.g., accessory power) and the black ground cable to a chassis ground.
  2. Secure all connections with electrical tape or heat shrink tubing.

4.4. Video Signal Connection to Aftermarket Display

  1. Connect the yellow RCA connector from the extension cable to the video input (typically labeled "RCIN" or "Camera Input") on your aftermarket display or head unit.
  2. If your aftermarket display has a reverse trigger wire (e.g., purple or pink wire), connect the red power wire from the camera's extension cable (the one connected to the reverse light) to this trigger wire. This tells the head unit to switch to the camera view when reverse is engaged.
  3. Parking Line Adjustment: The camera comes with built-in parking guidelines. If your aftermarket display also provides adjustable parking lines and you prefer to use those, you can disable the camera's built-in lines. Locate the two small green wires labeled "Parking line" on the camera harness near the power connection. Solder or twist these two green wires together to disable the camera's default parking lines.

5. Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and connected to your aftermarket display, the ECOCONUT Rear View Camera operates automatically.

  1. Turn on your vehicle's ignition and ensure your aftermarket display is powered on.
  2. Shift your vehicle into reverse gear.
  3. The display should automatically switch to the camera's view, showing the area behind your vehicle with parking guidelines (if enabled).
  4. Use the camera view to assist with safe backing and parking maneuvers.
