Wiring and 70V Tap Options

The speakers feature Euro block speaker terminals with quick disconnect functionality, simplifying wiring. They offer versatile 70V power options: 1.5W, 3W, or 6W taps, allowing customization of sound levels for different areas.

For wiring, connect the black wire to the 'C' (common/negative) terminal. The red speaker wire should be connected to the desired wattage tap (1.5W, 3W, or 6W) based on your amplifier's output and desired volume for that specific speaker. 70V systems utilize parallel wiring, meaning you connect positive to positive and negative to negative across all speakers in the chain.

Operating the Speakers

Sound Quality and Design

The Cube 70V speakers feature a true 2-way design, incorporating a 3.5-inch woofer for natural mids and bass, and a 0.5-inch black PEI tweeter for crisp, clear highs. This configuration provides a fuller frequency response compared to single-driver systems, making them suitable for various commercial audio applications.

The non-obtrusive design allows for placement virtually anywhere, blending seamlessly into any decor. The 70V system is ideal for low-level listening applications, ensuring consistent sound experience across a large area.

70V System Advantages

70V systems allow you to run a large number of speakers at a fixed and constant wattage off one amplifier. This simplifies wiring and allows for mixing and matching different types and brands of 70V speakers (e.g., ceiling speakers, wall-mounted speakers) without impedance concerns, as long as they are all 70V compatible.

Beyond music playback, these speakers can be used for public address (PA) announcements or sending messages using chimes and bells, provided your amplifier supports these functions.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Rockville Cube 70V speakers, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the speaker cabinets and grilles. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
  • Placement: Ensure speakers are mounted securely and are not exposed to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or high humidity.
  • Wiring Inspection: Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and signs of wear or corrosion. Loose connections can lead to poor sound quality or intermittent operation.
  • Safety Cables: Verify that safety cables are properly attached and in good condition, especially in high-traffic areas or where vibrations may occur.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your Rockville Cube 70V speakers, consult the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Sound:
    • Check all wiring connections from the amplifier to the speakers. Ensure positive and negative terminals are correctly connected.
    • Verify the amplifier is powered on and functioning correctly.
    • Confirm the correct wattage tap is selected on each speaker and matches the amplifier's capacity.
    • Test with a different audio source to rule out source device issues.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the volume level on your amplifier.
    • Check for loose wiring connections.
    • Ensure the wattage tap setting is appropriate for the amplifier's output and the speaker's capacity. An incorrect tap can cause distortion.
    • Inspect speaker cones for any visible damage.
  • Uneven Sound Distribution:
    • Adjust the swivel mounts to optimize sound direction for even coverage.
    • Verify that all speakers are set to the same or appropriate wattage tap for their respective zones.
    • Check for any obstructions blocking sound from specific speakers.

If problems persist after trying these steps, please contact customer support.
