1. Introduction
This user manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your ELRO FV4310 Combined Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and retain it for future reference.
The ELRO FV4310 is designed to detect both smoke (indicating fire) and carbon monoxide (CO) gas, providing early warning to help protect you and your family. It features a reliable optical smoke sensor and an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor, along with a 10-year integrated battery life.

2. Important Safety Information
Always adhere to the following safety guidelines:
- Do not paint the detector.
- Do not block the alarm's openings.
- Do not attempt to open or repair the unit.
- Regularly test the detector as instructed.
- This device is not a substitute for proper ventilation and maintenance of fuel-burning appliances.
- Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, and tasteless. This detector is designed to alert you to its presence, but it cannot prevent CO from occurring.
Image: This diagram illustrates that carbon monoxide is undetectable by human senses (sight, smell, hearing), highlighting the critical role of a CO detector.
3. Product Features
The ELRO FV4310 detector incorporates several key features for optimal performance:
- Optical Smoke Sensor: Detects smoke particles, providing early warning of fire.
- Electrochemical Carbon Monoxide Sensor: Accurately detects dangerous levels of CO gas.
- 10-Year Integrated Battery: Provides long-lasting power without the need for battery replacement.
- Test/Pause Button: Allows for easy testing of the alarm and temporarily silencing nuisance alarms.
- Low Battery Warning: Alerts you when the battery is nearing the end of its life.
- 85dB Alarm: Loud alarm sound to ensure effective notification.
- Fire-Retardant PC Plastic: Durable and safe housing material.

4. Setup and Installation
4.1. Activating the Battery
The ELRO FV4310 comes with a pre-installed 10-year battery. To activate the battery, simply follow the instructions provided in the packaging or on the device itself. The battery will last for 10 years after activation.
Image: This image demonstrates the battery activation process, highlighting that the integrated battery provides a 10-year lifespan once activated.
4.2. Choosing a Location
For optimal protection, install detectors in the following locations:
- Smoke Detection: Install at least one detector on every level of your home, including basements and attics. Place them inside or near sleeping areas.
- Carbon Monoxide Detection: Install a CO detector on every level of your home, especially near sleeping areas and where fuel-burning appliances are located (e.g., furnace, water heater, fireplace).
- Avoid placing detectors in kitchens, bathrooms, or garages where steam, cooking fumes, or vehicle exhaust might cause false alarms.
- Ensure the detector is not obstructed by furniture, curtains, or other objects.
Image: This diagram illustrates ideal placement for the ELRO FV4310 detector within a home, suggesting locations such as hallways, living rooms, and near central heating boilers for comprehensive smoke and carbon monoxide detection.
4.3. Mounting the Detector
The ELRO FV4310 is designed for easy installation. Mounting materials are included.
- Choose a suitable location on the ceiling or wall, away from corners and obstructions.
- Use the included screws and wall plugs to securely mount the base plate.
- Attach the detector unit to the base plate by twisting it clockwise until it clicks into place.
- Ensure the detector is firmly attached and cannot be easily dislodged.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Normal Operation
Once installed and activated, the detector will continuously monitor for smoke and carbon monoxide. A small LED indicator light will typically flash periodically (e.g., every 30-60 seconds) to confirm it is functioning correctly.
5.2. Testing the Detector
It is crucial to test your detector weekly to ensure it is working properly. To test:
- Press and hold the Test/Pause button on the front of the detector.
- The alarm will sound a loud, pulsating signal.
- Release the button. The alarm should stop.
- If the alarm does not sound during the test, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
5.3. Alarm Signals
The detector provides distinct alarm signals for smoke and carbon monoxide:
- Smoke Alarm: Three long beeps, pause, three long beeps. This indicates the presence of smoke.
- Carbon Monoxide Alarm: Four short beeps, pause, four short beeps. This indicates dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
- Low Battery Warning: A single chirp every 30-60 seconds. This indicates the battery is nearing the end of its life and the unit needs to be replaced.
- Malfunction Warning: A different pattern of chirps or flashes may indicate a fault. Refer to the Troubleshooting section.
5.4. Silencing Nuisance Alarms (Pause Function)
If a non-emergency situation (e.g., cooking fumes) triggers the smoke alarm, you can temporarily silence it:
- Press the Test/Pause button once.
- The alarm will silence for approximately 10 minutes.
- The detector will automatically reset after the silence period if the smoke has cleared. If smoke is still present, the alarm will reactivate.
- Note: The pause function typically does not apply to carbon monoxide alarms, as CO detection requires immediate attention.
6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliability of your detector:
- Cleaning: Dust and debris can affect the detector's performance. Gently vacuum the vents and exterior of the detector at least once a month using a soft brush attachment. Do not use cleaning solvents or detergents.
- Battery: The integrated battery is designed to last 10 years and is not replaceable. When the low battery warning sounds, the entire unit must be replaced.
- End of Life: The detector has a recommended maximum lifetime of 10 years after production. After 10 years, the unit should be replaced, even if it appears to be functioning.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm does not sound during test. | Unit not activated, faulty unit, or end of life. | Ensure battery is activated. If not, activate. If still no sound, replace the unit. |
| Detector chirps every 30-60 seconds. | Low battery warning. | The integrated battery is at the end of its life. Replace the entire detector unit. |
| False alarms (smoke). | Cooking fumes, steam, dust, or insects. | Use the pause function. Clean the detector. Relocate if consistently triggered by normal activities. |
| Continuous alarm without apparent cause. | Actual smoke/CO presence, or unit malfunction. | Evacuate if CO alarm. Ventilate. If no clear cause, replace the unit. |
